It was another day in the shinigami headquarters. The halls were bustling and all of the reapers were knee deep in the reaping of souls. William T. Spears was sitting in his office, filing through a large stack of papers. This time, it was an unusually large amount because of the lack of work Grell did.
"Honestly..."William muttered as he moved a sheet of paper to the bottom of the pile. "Im tired of doing all of this work myself."
William was at his end when it came to all of these papers. Every day this week was spent either filing or writing reports, most in which he wasnt even responsible for! With a small sigh, he stood up and walked out down the halls in search of the where Grell could have gone. He wasn't with the Shinigami in the cafeteria. Nor was he in the break room.
All of the Shinigami backed away as they saw Wiliam's agitated face. William was used to it, though. He used it to his advantage as he pushed through everyone in search of bright red hair.
"Grell Sutcliff. You officially have ten seconds before I become mad." William ignored the snark comment that someone made that sounded along the lines of 'It's a bit too late for that.' and looked down at his watch for the exact time.
Right as the large hand was about to strike the tenth line, he heard the familiar, loud screech of Grell yelling his name.
"WILLIAM~! I have a perfect explination. I swear'!"
William shifted his glasses higher on the bridge of his nose before before pulling Grell by his long hair and turning back around.
"I am not interested in excuses. All I want is for you to do your own damn work. Ive been so focused on yours that I havent even had the time to look at mine."
"But, William! I was--"
"In other news," William interrupted. "You are to stay after work for the next week to do the rest of your work."
"But--"
"No if's, and's, or but's." William's eyebrow twitched in annoyance as Grell grabbed onto a door to keep from moving any more.
"Sutcliff, you have exactly three seconds to let go before you are forced to clean every toilet in this building." He turned around once more to see if Grell did in fact comply. To his surprise, there was anither Shinigami with Grell. This one was much shorter than William or Grell and had longer hair than either of them. Upon closer speculation, william realized exactly why that was.
"Is that a female?"
The answer was apparent, but William couldnt believe it. The small frame, the long, blonde hair, and the smooth, toned legs under her green plaid skirt which matched the color of her emerald eyes all pointed to William being an idiot. But even then...
Female Shinigami (spelled Shenigami, for obvious reasons) only occur once every hundred years, and that is just an estimation. They were a rare phenomenon that usually didnt survive past their tenth year of life. So why... why was there one right in front of William and yet he didnt even know of her arrival? Why did he not recieve a notification during the staff meeting? And why was she even alive?
Grell looked at William curiosly as he stared at the girl dumbfounded. "That was what I was trying to tell you!" he exclaimed. "Apparently, she is the newest edition to the Dispatch Wing. No one knew about her coming, but apparently, she is a genius!" Grell pouted as he continued to speak. "Her test scores even rivaled mine."
The short woman blushed and shook her head timidly. "N-No, I didn't mean to... Im sorry for upsetting you!"
Grell shook his head and looked down. "A shy one, are you? You should be proud of your scores! No one has been able to get that close for years. Isn't that right, William~?"
William frowned slightly at the question before walking closer towards the woman. "Allow me to properly introduce myself. My name is William T. Spears." The girl quickly took his hand into hers. Her hands were small and soft. They nearly fit into his perfectly. "A-and your name is..?"
"My name is Jade." she said with a sheepish smile. "It is an honor to meet you!"
"The pleasure is all mine." William replied back as he put his hand back into his pocket. He looked at Jade in interest, as if he were looking at some kind of mythical creature. Well, in a sense, he was. This was the very first Shenigami that he had seen with his own eyes.
"Well, I will let you two get to your conversation!" Grell said as he hurried down the hall.
William toow out his death scythe and pressed the handle, sending it to grab Grell by his coat. "Not so fast. Dont you forget about what I said. You arent leaving here until every paper of yours is filed through and every soul on your paper is captured. Now get to work."
Grell let out a loud sigh before standing up and pulling away from the scythe. "But I couldn't help it! Sebastian took Ciel to swimming classes and i couldn't miss see--"
"Back. To. Work."
Without another word, Grell moped past William and Jade and into his cubicle. Jade looked down at the floor again and began to rub her small shoe against the gray rug.
"Would you like to come into my office? We can talk about your position and what you will be doing."
Jadelooked up into William's eyes, her round-framed glasses gleaming from the bright window before nodding. "Y-yes!"
William cocked his head to the side in confusion at her enthusiasm. His puzzled expression made Jade blush once again before sheepishly looking back towards the ground.
Once they walked back into William's office, he cleaned off his dek andmade two cups of tea.
