He was on top of the world

He was on top of the world. Everybody in the room looked at him with fear in their eyes, even Miss Venable who seemed unbreakable to everyone was too scared to even look him in the eyes. A new found confidence was glowing off him. A warm buzz spread through his chest as a proud smile crept onto his lips.

That was until he spotted you. The buzz was suddenly replaced with a dull feeling of pain, the smile dropping slightly. You were the only one who dared to look him in the eyes. The only one that dared to smile at him.

By Satan, what that smile did to him. He expected you to jump up from your chair and run into his arms like you always did. But you didn't. You didn't move a muscle except for the ones in your face to flash him another one of those heartwarming smiles.

His fists clench together behind his back. Someone did something to you, or rather, to your memories. He already knew who did it. Nobody would do something to you except for Cordelia. She is the only person, except for Michael, that you would allow to come close enough to affect you.

"I want to go first!" Mr Gallant yells out. The whole room looks at him. Of course, he wants to go first, he'll do anything if it meant that he could talk to a man, especially if they are as handsome as Michael is.

Michael nods, not being able to do anything else. He turned around and started walking towards his new office but not before signalling Mr Gallant to follow him. He looks at you with a smirk before following Michael like a hungry puppy following a butcher.

You don't even react to him or to anyone in the room for that matter. Your eyes were focussed on Michael, following him until he had left the room. Something about him seemed familiar. A weary cloud laid over his image in your head but one thing is all to clear in your mind. The look in his eyes when he saw you, it was like you were a friend that he thought was dead.

"He wants to see you." Ms Mead says. She doesn't need to tell you who wants to see you, you already know. Of course, you were the last one to be interviewed. All the greys were last. You are all happy to leave the bucket full of soapy water and brush behind on the ground. You push yourself off the ground and start to make your way to the office.
