Khaleel was more than anxious to get his holiday over, and when he had put on his school uniform on a Monday morning, he became overjoyed. A week to their resumption, his father had already made provision for new uniform, sandals, socks, notebooks and all that was needed of a senior secondary school student.
"Don't want to be late, Mum. I think it best to just go now. Don't worry that I haven't taken my breakfast. I'll be fine. Please", Khaleel assured his mother with an enthusiastic tone.
"No, son, you must take something, please. Your Dad will be made at me if he finds out I let you go to school without eating food " she warned, trying to appear serious this time. This woman is the best of all treasures, Khaleel thought, forcing a brief smile on his face to please his mum. "Mama, is Daddy fine with me taking journalism as my course now? Have you two talked it over? My understanding is, you must have done some real work convincing Dad!," Khaleel inquired as he sat comfortably to take his breakfast.
"Your Daddy was a bit miffed when I brought him the subject. My understanding is that there was no stopping your Dad over his decision. He says his decision is supreme. His tone was even harsh when we talked the matter over," Aisha explained.
"I think I'm some grown up now, Mama. I must be allowed to actualise my dreams, Mum. Mum, listen, I want to be a writer. I want to work with the reputable paper if I finish the uni," Khaleel cried.
"Son, you don't have to go for Journalism to become a writer. Haven't you heard of excellent doctors in the world who are writers?"
"Mum, I know. I just want to be the perfect writer that there is. I can't come closer to believing that perfect writers do not exist," Khaleel declared, taking his school bag as he led his way towards the door and jacked it open.
