Chapter 1

   I learned that I am not human. Yes I know, you probably think I’m some kind of green alien with a disfigured face, but no. Even I thought I was human until I did the impossible. A few hours ago, my father, or my so called father, told me the truth about who I am and what I am here for. My name is Peter Carlton and my story started like this…

24 HOURS AGO

       "Peter, pay attention!" Mr. Duncan said.

       "Sorry Mr. Duncan I was distracted." I replied .

“Do you know what we were talking about?” He said. I hesitated and tried to guess what we were talking about but I went with the honest response.

“No Mr. Duncan” I said.

“We were talking about how the Earth is not perfectly circular, but if you keep this up your grade will look like a perfectcircle, something called a zero.” Mr Duncan said. The class burst out into laughter, it was embarrassing of course, a teacher burning me. Now thats ironic.

“Im sorry Mr. Duncan.” I said sheepishly. After a few minutes the bell rang, indicating the end of the day. I was getting ready and saw that my best friend Sam was coming towards me.

“Dude, did you just get owned by a teacher?” he said snickering.

“Don’t want to talk about it Sam.” I replied.

“Oh ok, oh and by the way, you are coming to the party right?” he asked. I had completely forgotten about Sam’s party. I would have to say no because my dad hates me going outside other than going to school, but this was the end of the year party so I couldn’t deny.

“Yeah, of course I’m coming!” I said “It’s gonna be so much fun!”

“Alright, see you then Pete” He said. I just hoped my dad would let me go to a party this one time.

I went outside and saw my dad’s car waiting for me. As I opened the door my dad asked me how my day was. I hated this question so much because he asked it all the time and it got so annoying so I said yes. After we were on the highway I asked my dad if I could go to Sam’s party.

“Dad?” I asked.

“Yeah, whats up?” he answered.

“I was wondering if I could go to Sam’s party today.” I said.

“Pete, you already know that you can't go anywhere outside of school or our house. Its not safe for you.” He replied.

“Dad please, it will be safe I promise. Sam said that he would have police guards around his house, since his dad is the leader of the Police Department.” I pleaded. As we entered the house my dad finally said yes.

“Fine, you can go, just fix your hair first ok? Your hair looks like a birds nest.” He said. I thanked him and went to my room and looked at my reflection through the mirror. My dirty blonde hair was ruffled up and I took a comb and combed it. I stared into the mirror. My cold blue eyes sent a chill down my spine.

“Pete! Lets go!” my dad yelled.

“Ok I’m coming!” I said.

When we arrived at Sam’s House, both me and my dad were astonished at how big his house was and that there were guards after all. After I said my goodbyes I went inside the house. I searched for Sam but he was nowhere to be found , when I saw his backyard my jaw dropped to the floor. His backyard was huge and full of people, it definitely felt like a small park to me. I trudged through the crowd. Eventually I found Sam.

“Pete! You made it! How did you like my house?” he said as he grinned.

“Dude, your house is a mansion....” I managed to say.

“Yeah I know right, oh right, the bonfires in 10 minutes. And it’ll be in the middle of my backyard” He replied. And of course he surprised me again.

I stared into the fire. I felt the warm heat on my skin, It felt good of course. I thought about my past, of how my dad read me my favourite story at night about these aliens that had powers that allowed them to do the impossible. He told me about a war between a good alien race called the Novanians and an evil alien race called the Kaonians, and that the war had demolished the planet Nova, where the Novanians lived, but six children escaped and came to Earth, hiding from the Kaonians, struggling to survive…

“PETER!” I heard Sam yell my name. People all around me were screaming and gasping. I then realized that I was on fire. I tried to extinguish the fire but I realized that it wasn't my clothes that were on fire, it was my body. I ran to Sam’s fountain and dove into the water. While I was running, I didn't feel any heat or burn, it just felt normal. I dove into the water, it felt cold and relaxing but I hadn’t gotten my head around how I didn't feel anything or how I caught fire in the first place. I called my dad to pick me up immediately. My dad picked me up and we went home. The first thing I said to him when we got back was,

“What is happening to me?” I asked frantically.

“Woah Pete, take a breath and tell me what happened” He suggested. I did as I was told. I told him what happened. He had a sad look on his face and I knew he was hiding something.

“Pete, its time for you to know the truth.” He said.

“The truth to what?” I questioned.

He sighed.“The truth of your life, your whole life is a lie.” he said.
