I got out of bed and quickly dressed, headed to the common room, my black feline prodding loyally next to me. My best friend, Abigail, was already sat on one of the chairs, wrestling one of her shoes on.

"Morning," I said to her, as well as to the founder of our house, who raised her cup from her portrait to greet me.

"Happy bonfire night!" Abigail replied, jerking her head towards me.

"Bonfire night?" I asked, "Is that a Hogwarts tradition no one told me about?"

"Ugh!" She exclaimed, looking at me in disgust, "You uneducated child! You don't know about bonfire night?!"

"Is that an American thing?" I asked, remembering that she had transferred from Ilvermorny.

"NO!!" She exclaimed, slapping her forehead. "It's a United Kingdom thing."

"Oh," I replied.

"I can't believe you didn't know about it," she went on, "you've been here longer than I have!"

"Sorry! No one tells me anything!"

"Ugh! Well, okay, Bonfire Night is from a long time ago in the 1600s, this guy, Guy Fawkes, wanted to blow up the British Parliament. Do you know what that is?"

"No," I replied, "but tell me after."

She sighed dramatically, continuing, "Well anyway, he wanted to blow it up, but he was also stupid enough to tell his brother in law to stay away and he was caught. So they celebrate the evasion of him blowing it up."

"Oh."

"Personally, I would've let the brother in law get blown up," she added, laughing at herself.

"Abigail!" I scorned, with a suppressed snicker.
