"What am I gonna say?" Epiphany whispered to herself. She locked herself in Shay's bathroom, telling her that she "had to pee" when in reality she was just anxious as hell. Her nerves were bad and as a result she couldn't stop fidgeting around like a crackhead. She never had to do something like this for Agent Banks before. Sure, she made her money by snitching on many people, but getting close to her victim was something new for her.
Do I ask for his number? What if he rejects me? What about Saint? Would he be there too? Shit, now I can't use a fake name since I told Saint my real one... Multiple thoughts ran through Epiphany's head like the speed of light.
She turned on the faucet, so whoever walked pass the bathroom would think she was washing her hands. A couple of light knocks on the bathroom door, caught Epiphany's attention.
"Huh?" Epiphany called out.
"Damn girl, why you takin' so long? You peeing out a river or something?" Shay replied, standing in her 6" heels. The black bodycon dress fit her grown woman body like a glove. Her red weave was straightened down her back and she smelled just as good as she looked.
When Shay got the news that Epiphany had V.I.P tickets to Taya's black and white birthday affair, she nearly screamed her head off. The hustlers of New York City would be in the building tonight, including Crook and Shay knew that. She couldn't wait to see him and give him a little surprise later in the restroom-- she kept her lipstick handy, just in case for reapplication.
"Nah, I'm comin' out right now!" Epiphany yelled back. She took a deep breath and braced herself for the night ahead. There was no turning back now.
Epiphany slowly opened the door and stepped out. The heels she borrowed from Shay clacked on the floor as she exited the bathroom. Epiphany's knotless braids were let down out of her normal bun, reaching her thigh. She had on a white two-piece skirt set. The top was a bell sleeve crop top, and the skirt was so tight that she could barely breathe. It was too short for her liking, but she knew she had to work with it since the outfit was a loan from Shay.
Epiphany needed to look "different than usual" if she wanted to get Crook's phone number. She felt like such a hoe. Here she was smiling in Shay's face but scheming on the low to take the man she was fucking. Although Crook confirmed he was single, that didn't make Epiphany feel any less guilty.
She pushed her remorseful thoughts to the back of her mind as she followed Shay to the living room. Leroy was watching a basketball game with Miss Lady while she smoked a blunt. "Aww, shit," Miss Lady spoke once she saw Epiphany. She coughed a couple of times as she got up from the sofa.
Shay internally rolled her eyes. It seemed like her mother loved Epiphany more than her.
Miss Lady twirled Epiphany around a couple of times, resulting in them both to laugh. "My beautiful chocolate bunny!" Miss Lady stuffed the money she had in her hands in Shay's white mini Telfar purse that Epiphany was wearing for the night.
Miss Lady then lowered her mouth to Epiphany's ear before whispering, "Watch her ass." Epiphany just nodded, knowing that she was talking about Shay.
"Be careful." Leroy spoke, making himself known. Epiphany had asked Miss Lady to watch Leroy for the night because she didn't feel comfortable leaving him at their crib alone. Leroy felt weird seeing Epiphany all dressed up. It wasn't like his sister to go out and party. Every time Shay would invite her out to a house party, she would deny it.
Epiphany gave her little brother a small smile and a hug for reassurance. "I will."
The girls made it outside of Shay's building and got into a Lyft a couple of minutes later. It was a 30-minute cab ride from the Bronx to Club Tease in downtown Manhattan.
