Nathaniel's POV

*flashback*

I was pacing the side of the hall by my locker, nervous about Amelia and her decision on whether to trust me or not. I was so into my thoughts that I didn't notice my ex Susie Clark come up and lean against my locker, until she tapped my shoulder repeatedly.

"Hello anyone there. Nathaniel, hey!" Susie said. "Hi um sorry I'm here." I said shaking my head.

"Good, I've been meaning to talk to you about something. Look I know we haven't spoken since we broke up like 6 months ago but, I wanted to reconnect with you." She said it really fast and must've taken my processing silence as a yes because the next thing I know I'm being kissed. I tried to pry her off gently but she refused to stop.

So I just went along with it and when she wasn't paying attention turned my head and pulled away, just in time to see Amelia shake her head with tears running down her cheeks. I stepped towards her, I want to explain to her what just happened but she ran off. I tried to explain in class too but she wouldn't listen.

*flashback over*

At dinner with our parents she escaped after her dad asked how it's going between us. I went after her and we sat in her room and she spoke first.

"I trusted you Nathaniel you said you'd be single until I find out if I fully trusted you. I saw you in the hallway with the bimbo pressed up against the lockers." She told me.

"Oh you saw that um what can I do to fix this? I mean you've obviously lost trust in me. The girl you saw me with Brenda is one of my ex's and wanted to reconnect but I didn't think she meant like that until she kissed me. You see my dilemma here? I really like you but I messed up with the help of one of my ex's." I  went on babbling about how hard it is to test our trust in each other when one person messed it up. Amelia just sat on her bed looking at her hands.

“Let’s just forget it and pretend it never happened, start over, please.” I  begged. We sat there as she thought about it for half an hour.

“Ok I will let this slide but if I see you with another girl that’s not related to you, again I will break this engagement off ok?” She said standing up with her hand on my hip.

“Ok I won’t ruin it this time sweetheart I promise.” I said standing up and kissing her cheek.

“This doesn’t mean I’m not mad at you and you have to earn my trust back . And don't call me sweetheart, I'm mad at you.” Amelia huffed at me. I just took her hand and led her back to the dining room. We took our seats and the questioning began.

"Are y'all ok? You seemed pretty upset Amelia." Grace asked looking worried.

I was afraid she'd tell our parents about what happened at school but, she didn't.

"I was having a bad day and ringed him out for cussing at a guy who bumped into me in the hallway today. But we're fine now." Amelia lied so smoothly I almost believed her.

"Ok then good job Nate." Julian approved.

"Thank you sir." I said.

"So as we were saying before Julian and Grace would you mind if Nate spend a few nights over here with you? We have business in Denver and will feel better if he's not throwing a wild party like last time we were away." My dad said looking at me accusingly.

"Hey, it wasn't me it was Rodger and I told him no." I told them for the 18th time since the party 6 months ago.

"Still."My mom muttered.

"Sure, he can stay. He is our future son-in-law. Just go get your things. Once you get back, since we don't have an extra bedroom, you will stay with Amelia. But no funny business, I trust you." Julian said. I escused myself and went home to get cloths and stuff I will need like my phone charger."
