Chapter 4

~Sayomi POV~

"Sigh..."

School finally ended. I never knew it could be so tiring...Now I need to ask Mr. Tanaka if I can go get ramen with the group. Nendou kept on asking me every five minutes during class which caused him to get in trouble with the teacher for interrupting class. It also pissed off Kuboyasu and Kaido, who kept on explaining to him that I have to get permission from my "grandpa".

I walk out the school gates to see Mr. Tanaka talking with the group. I'm shocked to see that he's wearing casual clothes which consisted of grey pants, loafers, and a white t-shirt covered by a blue & grey flannel.

"Ojiisan! You're early!" I exclaim, trying to play it cool.

He immediately figures out what's going on and plays along with it. He smiles widely.

"Ah! It's my cute little Sayo-chan! How's my favorite magomusume?!"

He gives me a bear hug before he whispers quickly near my ear.

"You don't need my permission for anything. You can return late but try to be back by 8 pm. It's not safe."

"Alright...Thank you, Mr.Tanaka."

We let go and keep the act up.

"Ojiisan, may I go out my friends?!"

"Of course! Your father will be thrilled to hear you have made some friends. Be back home by 8 'o clock though. I don't want you to get hurt or lost."

I nod. Everyone cheers before they all start talking about which ramen shop we should go. I look at Mr. Tanaka and he winks. I smile as he waves goodbye and gets inside his car. I wave as he drives off in the direction to the apartment building. As I stare off in the distance, Kaido walks up to me.

"We're leaving Kozuki-san!"

"Oh okay. Where are we going, by the way?"

"We're going downtown. There's a good ramen shop near the mall."

I nod and we join the group, walking together. We all chat except for Saiki who keeps his usual poker face while we head to the ramen shop. I don't talk much since I admire all the shops and take in the scenery. I've never been in the city before. All I've seen is the dark mansion and the woods. I smile as I've never felt so free and happy. But, in the back of my mind I know that it won't last long. I still have a mission to do and if I fail, I would be tortured again and be locked up in that cold and dark room...

I snap out of my thoughts and notice that my eyes are watery. Luckily, no one is paying attention to me except... for Kaido, who looks at me worried.

He whispers, "Are you okay?"

"Y-yeah...sorry. I was just...thinking of my mom." I lie but my heart throbs after I say that.

"O-oh...Sorry to hear that. Is your mom.....?"

"Yeah...she passed away when I was 3 years old. She was very weak and caught a disease." I reply, my voice almost cracking from thinking of my mom laying in bed with dull eyes.

It became slightly awkward as we walk, side by side. The others stop walking and turn to look at us. Teruhashi is the first one to speak.

"We're almost there. We just have to cross two more streets and take a right."

"Ah okay..."

"I can't wait, partners! Their ramen is delicious! Nendou states, giving a thumbs up.

"You say that about every shop we go to..." Kaido says back.

"Shut up, you ugly monkey!"

"Hah! You're the monkey, you idiot!
