The annoying beep-beep sound of the alarm is what woke Ronalda up with a start. She wasn't in the mood, she could feel the depression and sadness descending upon her like a dark cloud about to pour down onto the poor folks of Cripesburg.
That's exactly one of the reasons she ignored the beep-beep of the alarm for a few seconds before she slammed it down the bedside table. She remained in the bed without making a move, just staring up at the glittery stars that weren't so glittery—considering it was morning—pasted on the ceiling.
She took in a big chunk of air before she decided to leave her bed. She found herself in front of the mirror staring back at herself. What she saw, she didn't like in the slightest. The dark bags under her eyes, the tired and puffy glimpse of her eyes and all of it had nothing to do with the fact that she only arrived at midnight from Lüderitz.
She was trying to see what her mom used to tell her, her innocent beauty, the fresh-faced, perfect features. 'A silent assessment of my gorgeous daughter' she would gush. But she didn't see all that. She couldn't. All she saw was despair.
Ronalda saw a picture face-down on the dressing table from the peripheral view of her eyes. She took in another ragged breath before she moved her legs in that direction. She picked it up and gazed at it for what felt like a lifetime.
It was her mom.
She couldn't help the frazzled, broken sob that escaped her, drawing so much from her being. The picture fell from her tremble-y hands, her lips quivering, tears pouring down her cheeks like a waterfall. Her breathes were coming out in painful gasps, her whole being shaking with the weight of the emotion. Her legs couldn't hold her upright, they were also a shuddering mess as they gave out on her, landing her on her butt on the cold floor as broken sobs wreaked havoc on her both physically and emotionally.
A song hit her almost instantaneously in her already bewildered state. It was I surrender by Hillsong United. The words started spilling from her lips almost immediately without her having actual control over what was happening.
🎶Here I am down on my knees
surrendering all
Find me here Lord as you draw me near
Desperate for you
I surrender
Drench my soul as mercy and grace unfold
I hunger and thirst
With arms stretched wide
I know you hear my cry
Speak to me now
I surrender
I wanna know more
Like a rushing wind
Jesus breathe within
Lord have your way; Lord have your way in me
Like a mighty storm, stir within my soul
Lord have your way; Lord have your way in me 🎶
