"Sometimes, you don't realize what you have until you wake up and go 'Damn'. "

-August Alsina

"Elexiys, one thing you don't ever have to worry about is me hurting you. I ain't gonna treat you like your parents treated each other, I'ma show you how love is supposed to be. I love you....."

Who would ever think they'd make it this far in their life after all the pain they've took? Nobody. I thought that pain was taken away from me when I met Giovanni.

I was indeed wrong.

Then I met James.

Two wrongs don't make a right.

I was in Mississippi with my mom, dad, and Amina visiting my grandmother Venice for summer break. School had just let out for us in May. I was a freshman at VSU , and my sister was in the 6th grade. Every year when we visited , we felt like we belong there . It feels so bittersweet to leave grandma in Kosciusko every August , but dad promised her she would be able to visit us for Christmas and he'd bring her out to Mount Jackson.

Unfortunately, that didn't take place as promised, fatally.

On July 2nd, mom, dad, and grandpa Ermias Sr. went out to buy fireworks. I remember that day like it was yesterday. They left the house at 1:22 in the afternoon and neither of them returned that day.

Three hours later, my cell phone rang. It was an unknown number, but I knew it so well because my dad called from that number before . I picked up the phone. The dispatcher butchered my name with such a concerned tone.

"Hello, this is Officer Hutchins. Am I speaking to Elexia Constance?"

"Ye-yes.. This is her" , I stuttered.

I gulped, fearing my parents were in jail.

"Well miss, there has been a fatal accident on HWY 49 S , and I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but one of your relatives has passed shortly after the crash. If you would like, we will go further in location details and direct you to the hospital. Are you at legal age to drive?"

I couldn't respond. My heart was racing in fear, and tears swiftly rolled down my cheek. I finally responded.

"Yes, I .... am 17."

The officer gave me instructions to the hospital, and my grandmother, Amina, and I got into her 2012 Dodge Journey and started toward the hospital. We arrived at the hospital at 6 p.m.

As we raced through the hallways to the Emergency Ward, the news report flashed on the television set hanging in the waiting room.

"There has been a fatal 4-vehicle crash on US HWY 49 S leading into Richland . Three people are dead , the other 5 badly injured. Among the three fatalities was Virginia entrepreneur Ermias Constance Jr. , a native of Sallis . The other two has been identified as of 4:54 p.m by an off duty Hinds County Coroner to be students from a local high school . The family wished not to release the names of these students. There are no other words of the condition of the others injured in this crash."

I raged with fury after hearing those words.

"FUCK!"

I kicked a chair, scaring a toddler. He cried and took off to his mom, who looked at me strangely. "The fuck you looking at bitch?", I shot at her. She mumbled something under her breath as she walked to the snack machine. "Mumble something again and I'll drag yo ass by yo leave out! " , I yelled at her. Out the first ward doors came a nurse , two security guards, and my nana. She tried her best to get to me. An officer grabbed me. I kicked and screamed while the they tried to gain control of me. They finally took me into my mother's room (after what seemed like forever) , and she looked as if she was regretting something.
