The next morning, Ruby was now being dropped off by Yang at her house.
Yang:I'm not leaving just yet as I'm gonna call Blake. After my call, let me know when you need to be picked up.
Ruby:Sure thing, Yang.
Ruby said as she got off the bike and made her way into her home. When she entered, she saw her parents Summer and Qrow sitting on the living room couch.
Ruby:What's going on, guys?
Summer:Sweetie, please sit down.
Ruby:Ok.
Ruby said as did what her mother asked.
Qrow:Your mom and I have reached the bottom of the barrel.
Ruby:What do you mean?
Ruby asked, becoming concerned not only by the tone of her parents's voice but also where this conversation was going.
Ruby:Mom, dad, what are guys talking about?
Qrow:You know about my "habit", right?
Ruby:Yeah.
Summer:Well, he did some things while he was in that habit of his that I'm really mad at him for. I understand this is really difficult for you, Ruby, and we know that. I just want you to know that we still love you. So, I guess what we're saying is that w-
Qrow:We're getting a divorce, Ruby.
Qrow bluntly said. Ruby's eyes widened at that point. Before her brain could fully process what her father just said, Summer snapped at him.
Summer:Qrow!
Qrow:What?!
Summer:Can you just let us explain this for her before you just blurt it out like that?!
Qrow:Chill, Sum!
Summer:Great, now she'll have a difficult time processing this! Thanks, Qrow!
Qrow:No she won't! She's 15, Sum! Give it a rest!
Summer:You know what?!
As the two continued shouting, Ruby took this moment to leave the tension her parents had towards each other. Ruby then saw Yang on the phone, still on her bike.
Yang:Uh-huh, uh-huh. Yeah, see ya babe.
Yang said as she hung up. She then saw Ruby standing there, nervous.
Yang:What's up?
Yang asked suddenly concerned.
Ruby:M-My parents are getting divorced.
Yang:Ohh. I'm so sorry.
Ruby:I really don't wanna talk about it, Yang.
Yang:You wanna do something to take your mind off it?
Ruby:Well, don't you have plans?
Yang:Ruby, my date with Blake isn't for a while and you're more important.
Ruby thought for a short while before she complied.
Ruby:Well, ok. I'm cool with whatever you wanna do.
Ruby said as she hopped onto Bumblebee. Then, the two rode off to try to at least get what happened with Summer and Qrow off their minds. Team RWBY were now at the park, all four of them having lunch since they all had plans concerning the scenery. Yang started the conversation after she took a bite from the food in her hand.
Yang:So, what should we do for our weekend sleepover, Ruby? Any ideas?
Yang said as she chewed her all meat sandwich.
Ruby:Well,
She started with the ice cream cookie sandwich still in her mouth.
Ruby:I figured we could go to that arcade, get dinner, play video games, eat nothing but junk food.
The mouth filled Ruby said as she gulped her bite and took another.
Weiss:Yes, that can also happen with pizza ordered by me, you're welcome, as well as those huge soda cans that we earned for saving that shop from those criminals a while back.
The elegant one said with nothing in her mouth.
Blake:I also got four party bags of our favorite chips from my mom as she wanted to spice up our sleepover.
Blake said after she swallowed her grilled cheese.
Yang:You have one of the best moms ever.
Blake:Thank you, Yang.
Blake said as she grabbed a napkin and whipped the marinara from her mouth. After that, she kissed it.
Blake:Hey, just wondering? What did you need to speak with your parents about, Ruby?
Ruby looked up at Blake and, although a little hesitant, responded.
Ruby:Well, it's just.....
Ruby started after she gulped down her sandwich bite.
Ruby:I-I really don't wanna talk about.
Weiss:Are they ok?
Ruby, after a moment of silence, finally confessed what happened at the Rose household.
Ruby:My parents are getting a divorce.
The team were clearly shocked. After taking a moment to process what she just said, Weiss immediately tried comforting Ruby.
Weiss:Ruby, I'm sorry.
Ruby:Its fine.
Weiss:Are you sure? Cause, you know-
Yang:Weiss, don't.
Yang said in the tone that says she doesn't want to add tension for Ruby. There, the picnic continued with nothing but silence. Ruby was in her room, her hood over her head as she was writing in her diary. The rest of the team were out on personal errands, Tai was out on a mission, and spending time with her parents weren't an option. We only get to view the teenager's face as she scribbled in the words that were on her mind onto the paper in her book. After a few more moments of writing in her private book, she received a knock on her door. Ruby then put her diary away in her secret compartment and got up at to check to see who it was. When she did, she saw it was Miss.Goodwitch.
Ruby:Miss.Goodwitch?
Goodwitch:Miss.Rose. What are you doing here?
Ruby:I'm just by myself. I had nothing better to do. So, I figured I could just hang out here.
Goodwitch:I see. Where's the rest of your team?
Ruby:They're doing other stuff. Is there something you needed?
Goodwitch:No. Just doing a check.
Ruby:Ok. Would you like to come in?
Goodwitch:I require it.
Goodwitch said as she entered. She then checked the room to see if there were anything funny in it.
Ruby:If you don't mind me asking, what's the check for?
Goodwitch:That, young lady, is for any pranks and mischief that go on here. Just so that no stupid student is trying to pull anything illegal or dangerous in our school.
Ruby:Ok. I get it. Like-
Goodwitch:Yes, like what CRDL did.
A moment of silence occurs in the room as Goodwitch did more searching. After a few more moments of searching through her telekinesis, Goodwitch stopped and continued speaking with Ruby once again.
Goodwitch:Are you still bothered by them?
Ruby:No. Aren't those guys in jail?
Goodwitch: I meant by what they said.
Ruby:No.
Goodwitch:Don't lie. You know you can talk with me about them. Just don't believe what they said about you. They're just a bunch of tactless, uncaring delinquents who are where they belong.
Ruby:I'm serious, Miss Goodwitch. I'm not bugged by them. None of team RWBY is. I hope.
Goodwitch:Then, why are so quiet? Is it about your mother?
Goodwitch asked, her hands crossed.
Ruby:In concerns with my mom, I'm a little shaken. That, I mean by the fact she's still alive.
Goodwitch:I'm surprised too. I'm still processing what's been happening.
Ruby:So, is there anything else you needed, Miss.Goodwitch?
Goodwitch:No, nothing else. Have a lovely day, Miss.Rose.
Ruby:You as well.
The two of them give each other a tight hug, Glynda giving a kiss to Ruby's temple.
Ruby:I love you.
Glynda:I love you too.
Glynda then leaves the room, trusting that everything is going good. Ruby got her diary back out of her compartment, got back to her bed, and restarted her writing. After a few more moments of writing, Ruby put her things down to answer a call ringing on her scroll.
Ruby:Hello.
Summer:Hey, petal.
Ruby:Mom?
Summer:I'm just calling to speak with you. Listen, I-
Ruby:Mom,
Ruby started with her leaning on her side of the wall of the dorm room.
Ruby:if this is about what happened between you and dad, I understand.
Summer:Ruby, you don't. We're sorry. We didn't-
Ruby:Mom, it's ok. You don't have to be sorry.
Summer:I do. Your father does as well.
Ruby:But it's fine. These are issues you guys are trying to figure out and I won't bug you guys.
Summer:But-
Ruby:It's ok, mom. Have a nice day.
Ruby ended the conversation with her hanging up the call. Ruby then sighed, put her diary away, and decided to go for a walk, bringing Crescent Rose with her just in case she runs into any trouble that requires her weapon. When she walked out the door, she saw Miss.Goodwitch standing there.
Goodwitch:They're getting divorced, aren't they?
Ruby:I-
Goodwitch:Why else would your mother mention her and your father in that regard over that phone call?
Ruby stood silent as she looked away from the teacher slightly before she spoke again.
Ruby:I really don't wanna talk about it.
Ruby said as she walked past the teacher.
Goodwitch:Ruby-
Ruby:See you later, Miss.Goodwitch.
Ruby said as she continued walking away. While sitting at the cafe lounge room drinking her peppermint hot cocoa with a chocolate chip cookie, Ruby got a text from Tai asking for her to speak with him. She then look and saw he was outside, very concerned.
Tai:I heard about what happened from Yang.
Tai started the conversation as they were sitting together.
Ruby:She told you?
Tai:Yeah. I'm very sorry. I'm sure it'll work out. I mean, who knows.
Ruby:Yeah. Who knows.
Ruby said with her hood still over her head.
Tai:Listen, I'm here for you and-
Ruby:Uncle Tai, I appreciate it but I'm fine.
Tai:Well-
Tai then caught wind of Yang and Blake making out in the library as he saw through the window.
Tai:"sighs"Those two. They've been dating only for a few months and it's like they're in love.
Ruby:Yeah, they can't keep their minds, hands, and bodies off each other.
Ruby said as she was barely paying any mind to what was going on in the building next to her.
Tai:Of course.
Ruby:Anyways, I gotta get back to my room.
Tai:Why's that?
Ruby:Extra cleaning. See you later, uncle Tai.
Ruby then got up and left, leaving him still concerned and unsure how to get through to the niece that he raised for his best friends.
