Vera is alone in her room when Gallant finds her. Her robes glide across the cemented floor as she paces around the room, oblivious to the fact that someone's watching her every move. As he stares from a distance, Gallant bites his fingernails—a bad habit that's making its return—and goes over what he plans to tell her. Your name's Daphne. You died. Apparently you survived. Your hair's a mess. He has no plans on scratching out that last part.

He looks over at her direction one more time to see that she's seated on the edge of her bed. Her hands are clapped over her mouth as she stared at her faint reflection in the mirror set across her.

She moves and acts like Daphne, but she's not Daphne. This is something Gallant has already concluded because it's all he has been thinking about, even if the idea of them manipulating and torturing her aggravated him.

He throws his arms in the air out of pure frustration. He wants nothing more than to scream, but doing so would mean getting not only Vera's attention, but Venable's, too; and so he results to thrashing his limbs around like a lunatic even more. Upon doing this, he realizes that there's a shadow hovering over him.

     "You alright?"

A figure peeks out of the shadows of the hallway. Gallant makes out Timothy's face, relief taking over. He's just another Purple—and a harmless one—who has his own doubts about the Cooperative and their true intentions.

Before the nuclear blast, Timothy and his family were expecting good news rather than bad. He had just been accepted to his dream university when things went south. The news about the nuclear explosion broke out and an army of both men and women dressed in black marched inside their home. They claimed that Mr. and Mrs. Campbell's eldest son was chosen. For whatever reason, Timothy didn't care.

When they took him inside a safe haven, he was told that he has "perfect genetic make-up", which explains why he isn't as close to the other Purples. He, along with a girl named Emily, are the two people who don't belong in the circle of social elites and social climbers. They just want to live long enough to see sunlight again.

Gallant huffs dryly. He knows Timothy asked that out of politeness, but did he really expect a good answer? The entire time he thought Daphne was dead, he was living in his own bubble of darkness. He blamed himself for her death and his grandmother never failed to remind him. He hated the Cooperative, but he loathed himself.

Timothy isn't used to the silence, not when Gallant's right next to him. "Look, I'm sorry about your friend," he says empathetically. "I'm sorry that you have to go through this—that any of us have to go through this."
