You woke up in the middle of the night alone. You sit up and look around. "Namjoon?" you call out. Where was he? You stand and wrap his blanket around your naked body.
You look in his bathroom but don't see anything. You head out into the hallway. It's extremely dark. "Namjoon, where are you?"
You head downstairs and look around. "Namjoon?" You hear a sound coming from the kitchen. You can make out a shadow moving around. "Namjoon?" you call out again.
"Over here."
You walk towards the man. "Why is the light off?" You finally feel a hand reach out and wrap around your waist.
"The reporters. If we turn on the lights they can see in. This is the only time I come in here cause they can't really see in. Are you hungry?"
"A little." He picks you up by the waist and sets you on the counter.
"Now, I'm no Jin. But I do know how to make a few things. I can make you a peanut butter and jelly sandwich or a bowl of cereal. Take your pick."
You chuckle. "A sandwich would be fine thanks." He starts to make some sandwiches moving about the kitchen as if the light were on. "Hey Namjoon?"
"Yes."
"What are you going to do?"
"I'm not sure. As of right now I'm only suspended. Of course I'd be fired if the ever found out we were together right now." He chuckles slightly. "I guess I'll start looking for a new job tomorrow just in case. It's probably for the best anyway."
He helps you down grabs the sandwiches and a couple of sodas. You guys begin heading back up the stairs. And that's when it hit you. You knew how to help him. Of course it meant having a conversation you really didn't want to have. But you had to did it to help.
"Hey, do you have a lawyer?"
**********
In the morning you hide In Jin's car before he takes off. He stops at a Starbucks near the school and you quickly sneak out mumbling a thanks. You go in the shop and buy two coffees and a bag of muffins.
You walk a couple of blocks to a large office building. You wave at the security guard as you walk to the elevator. As you get out, the receptionist smiled. "Long time no see Y/n."
"Hey is Mom busy?"
"She's in her office. He next scheduled appointment isn't for about 2 hours."
"Thanks." You walk down the hall to the last door on the left. You head in the office and see your mom hunched over a file on her desk taking notes in her notebook.
"Hey," you say, holding up the coffees.
She looks up at you surprised. "What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be in school?"
"I brought coffee and muffins. Can we talk?"
"Sure," she says and motions to the couch across the room. You head over and she joins you on the couch, taking one of the cups from you. "So, we haven't talked like this in awhile. I know a lot has been going on lately. Sorry I haven't been around much. I'm swamped with my regular cases and then Tae's stuff which I have to do on my personal time because he's not a client of the firm-"
"Why are you helping Tae?" You ask suddenly. She looks a little shocked at the question.
"Well cause he needs it and he's like a son to me and I don't want anything to happen to him."
"But if you hadn't known Tae before. If he hadn't been my friend. If he was just some random person who did that, would you be helping him?"
"To be honest, if he wasn't your friend, I probably would have never known about it. We don't really do pro bono and someone in Tae's situation would have gotten a public defender. So I guess I am helping him, in part, because you are dating him."
You suddenly look up at her. She smiles and says, "don't think I don't know what's going on my own house."
"You don't know the half of it," you mumble under your breath. You take a drink. "What if you were defending someone and you don't agree with the choices they have made. Like you think they did something really really bad. Would you still help them?"
"Are you talking about Tae and Jess?"
You are shocked. "You knew?"
"He told me what happened because he wanted my advice. I told him to tell you, be completely honest. Judging by your reaction, I guessing he didn't."
"No he didn't. Actually, I was talking about someone else. If someone I care for very deeply needs your help, you would do it right? Even if you don't like the situation that you are defending? You would still help them because you know how much they mean to me? They could pay you. Become an actual client of the firm."
"Y/n I will do whatever I can to help but I have to know details. Like who this person is."
"Well-" you start, not sure exactly how this should go. "Before I was dating Tae, I dated someone else. But we kept it a secret because we knew people wouldn't approve. Even after we broke up and I was dating Tae, we never really spoke about it. Now though, people have found out about it. His job suspended him. I need you to help him get back to his job."
"Is this about that teacher from your school?"
"Yes." You quickly look down and you wait for it. The yelling. The lecture. Something to show her disapproval. But nothing came. You look back at her and she is smirking.
"You really are too much like me." When she sees the puzzled look on your face she continues. "Well, remember how I always said I met Dad in college? He was my business law professor."
"So will you help him?"
"Tell him to call me and we will see. You need to figure out what you are going to do though about choosing either him or Tae. By the way, when you get home, take one of our silver spoons and put it in the freezer for hour then hold it on those hickeys on your neck. They should clear right up."
