Chapter 2
"Your face is burning, I figured that if I got him to answer the door, you'd be happy, not contract a fever!" Alya exclaimed, fanning her best friend with a paper plate while they hid from the party in Alya's room. Her comment only made Marinette's face turn a deeper shade of red but this time, with anger instead of embarrassment.
"Alya! Did you tell him to open the door? Why would you do that? I can't believe you would do that!" She stole the plate and swatted Alya with it while it was folded in her hand.
"Marinette, maybe if you would talk to him, you guys could end up like Nino and I. Besides why don't we call it fair for the cake?" Alya giggled out the last part, letting the anxious Marinette know she wasn't actually mad at her. Even though she loved her best friend and laughed along to her joke, she couldn't return to the party so soon with her cheeks this bright. Marinette told her friend to go back without her, realizing it was unfair to take her away from her boyfriend and party on her own birthday. She started to fan herself again, this time with her hands and prayed that Adrien didn't see the tomato color of her skin.
Unfortunately, as it usually was, luck was not on her side because he walked in at that very moment, destroying all train of thought in Marinette's mind. "Hey, Marinette, why aren't you out at the party?"
She couldn't possibly handle talking to Adrien twice in the same day! Her finger tapped against the side of her thigh at a steady pace and she felt her breathing quicken as she pulled the biggest possible smile she could manage. "Oh, w-well I was um... helping Alya find something a-and um I'm sitting... I'm sitting because..oh! I felt faint so I decided to sit down." She stuttered out the most logical explanation she could think of in the short time.
"Are you okay? Your face does look really pink-" He reached out to touch the side of Marinette's face but stopped in midmotion as the windows in the room shattered to reveal floating figure surrounded by glowing stars, another akumatized citizen!
"I am Dream-Queen and its past your bedtime!" The stars started to hurl toward the teens, suddenly seeming more like ninja stars than the sparkly ones in the night sky. Adrien grabbed one of Alya's books and blocked the star from touching either of them, then, in a moment of panic, grabbed Marinette's hand. They fled to the next room, Marinette being pulled by Adrien then swiftly pushed into Alya's little sisters' bedroom, only to look around and see she was totally alone a few moments later. Adrien had disappeared without a trace and his touch couldn't help but linger on Marinette's hand, leaving his impact on her skin.
Loud screams rose from a block down, then abruptly, they stopped and were replaced by more distant ones. This pattern repeated until silence surrounded her and the hope of Adrien returning had completely vanished. "Tikki," the little kwami popped out of her bag, "I think its time a certain bug and chat get involved. Tikki, transform me!" The kwami complied as Marinette's earrings grew red with her classic black spots. With every spin and ballerina bend, the Ladybug costume formed on her body with her yo-yo secure on her waist.
Once Ladybug arrived at the scene, the mischievous chat had already made a few attempts at taking down the akuma and once he saw his lady, his grin grew a thousand times bigger. "I'm glad to see you, my lady, I need my purr-fect partner so I'm glad you managed to spot this attack, Bugaboo."
His cheesy puns never failed to make her eyes roll, but he was right, neither of them could do this without the other one so they were lucky they made such a good team. "Its bad enough to hear the chat puns but are you started on ladybug too? Down kitty, we need to take this one down. Have you figured out where the akuma is hiding?" Chat Noir raised his eyebrow for a second then turned his gaze upon the villain that was turning the citizens of Paris into her slaves. Even after they had tried to fight her, her servants kept blocking their attacks and at one point it felt impossible to pass them.
"Her zombies look like... like they were sleepwalking! Her name is Dream-Queen after all so I thought purrhaps it could be in her star but she keeps creating them out of thin air, we couldn't test every one of them if we tried." He said, his face looked deep in thought and he had gotten good at figuring out villains after doing it for so long.
"What a smart kitten." Ladybug complimented.
"Fur-tunately for us, I am claw-ver enough to solve this my-hiss-try." Chat Noir was extremely grateful that his black mask covered his cheekbones so that his blush was not exposed to his lady due to his lady's compliment. Lucky for him, she was too distracted by his puns and the task at hand to notice the kitten's face. Chat watched her as she studied the figure, looking for the akuma's hiding place, her face contorting as she went through multiple thought processes, finally her facial features lit up with an idea.
"Her necklace-shaped exactly like her stars! It could be in there, but how are we suppose to get close enough to take her necklace? Unless..." Ladybug trailed off with a serious expression.
"Unless?" Chat inquired her with furrowed eyebrows.
"Chat, I need you to trust me, just follow my lead." Chat nodded, he would trust his lady with his life anyday, he knew she was the best possible superhero for the city of Paris so any plan she made was worth a shot. Ladybug shouted for her lucky charm and immediately a paperclip dropped in her hands. Everything was falling right into place for her plan.
"What do we have here? Now, look what the cat dragged in if it isn't Chat Noir and Ladybug. Hand your miraculous over to me now and I might spare your precious city of Paris." Dream-queen announced in her proud, deep voice which resonated throughout the city. With a long, exhausted breath, Ladybug stepped forward and bow downed in front of her, "Yes my queen, anything for you." These words coming out of his lady's mouth? Chat couldn't believe it, maybe she was under the spell of the akuma. He almost threw himself in front of her to protect her from the villain but then she turned and flashed a quick smile to her partner before returning to her facade.
She approached Dream-queen with caution and started to touch her earrings causing Chat great anxiety that she might actually lose her powers to hawkmoth. They stood one foot away and Dream-queen reached out her hands and unexpectedly, Ladybug's own hands flew up and snapped the necklace off of the villain's neck with the paper clip and threw it to chat, "Chat use your special power now!"
"Cataclysm!" He called out, enchanting his hand with a sort of almost dark magic. He clawed at the necklace and it was automatically destroyed, setting the akuma free for Ladybug to cleanse. She did her ending move and returning the balance to Paris, after setting the butterfly free of Hawkmoth's dark magic using her yo-yo.

After everything had settled down, Tikki floated around Marinette's room with a cookie in hand as they talked about whether sugar or peanut butter cookies were better. All of the sudden, she heard a tapping at her balcony trapdoor and opened it to reveal the same face that just had fought alongside just an hour before and her eyes grew wide. "Chat Noir? What are you doing here?"
