Last night was a joke. Landon and his family let me leave knowing that no one would remember me. Then involved Micah and then Micah to top it off involved Landon. It's a huge circle. A huge complicated circle.
Climbing from the bed, I walked slowly out into the hall and spotted Lori. She locked eyes with mine and frowned, at least she remembers me. I waved and walked towards the kitchen. I tried to sit away from Landon and ended up beside grace again. She couldn't contain her excitement that I'd come back. Like I had a choice.
"Morning dear." Lucinda smiled cheerfully in my direction.
I just waved then looked down. I didn't want them to see me weak and lost. I was supposed to be the Devils Daughter-Satan himself- the scariest person to live. I felt like a coward, and I couldn't figure out how to face myself.
Something clicked inside and I started panting and grabbing my throat. It felt like someone was strangling me. Something wasn't right. Everyone sitting around didn't even notice.
"My child." A voice boomed shaking the interior. "I found you at last." The cackling of the voices laughter sent chills down my spine. It was the devil. He's come for me. "I have a job for you. When you turn 18, come to hell. If you don't, I'll start destroying everything you care for." Air started making it's way back inside my lungs and I was breathing. Everyone was moving and talking. They hadn't noticed, but how? I smacked the table and my hand lit up. I shook it to put out the flame that threatened to char my skin, but it didn't budge.
Lucinda jumped up removing grace from beside me and shielding her small body from the flame. Landon grabbed a vase with water and sloshed it on me, that didn't even make it go away. Phil lunged and dragged me outside into the pool. My whole body was shaking and it all went up in flames. Even inside water, the flame just wouldn't die. Everyone's voice was muffled and I couldn't decipher what they were saying? Calm down? Relax? Breathe? I'm trying!
I closed my eyes and tried to focus the energy of it. The colors orange, it's hot. I opened my eyes to the flame gone and I fell over, being consumed by the blackness that beckoned for me.I woke up later in the afternoon searching frantically for where I was. Still at Landon's. I took a deep breath and looked in the mirror. My eyes were shifting, black with a white rim. My other eye was no longer white. Was I going darker? "Ahhhh!" I screamed so loud I broke glass objects splayed all over my room.
Landon burst through the door in a panic. "What happened?"
I turned and pointed to my eye. "What's happening to me?"
"We went over this. Your demon side is emerging first. You have to relax." He crossed my room to me in two strides rubbing my arms up and down. "Breathe."
"He found me," I whispered closing my eyes.
He lifted his eyebrow "who?"
"My-father." I choked on that word. He was no father to me. "He said when I turn 18, go see him in hell. He has a job for me and if I don't go, he will destroy everything I love."
"He can't." Landon was shaking his head. "He's terrified of you. He knows you'd destroy him."
"But what if it isn't an empty threat?"
Landon took that into consideration and hauled me off down the stairs to his dad. "We have a small problem."
"What is it?" Phil turned in his chair and looked between me and his son.
"My f-f-father found me."
Phil rubbed his chin thinking. It took him longer than I'd have liked but he finally spoke.
"He's always been watching you." He cleared his throat taking out a book. "He doesn't really want a war. God does. Here's the rundown." He paused opening the book. I looked closer and it was an old bible. "Lucifer fell in love with your mother, Lena. He loved her so much. God created man, and he grew fond of them. He wanted to protect them while god wanted to destroy it all. Lucifer didn't want any part of it so he denied god, god retaliated by throwing him out of heaven. Lena stayed behind forbidden to follow Lucifer. Your mother is gods daughter, Jesus's half-sister. Those loyal and who agreed with Lucifer followed him here." He was giving me the backstory of what happened in heaven, but that doesn't explain me. He shifted in his seat as if to read my thoughts he contributed. "Lena, snuck down to earth to be with Lucifer. You came along born to be the greatest. Lucifer didn't want a child who would be burdened with all this trouble. He did ask your mother to be rid of you, but she denied. God found out about you and has been searching nonstop for you. They both want you now that you're coming into your powers. That's why you must choose a side or destroy both."
"What if I don't want any part of it?" I raised my brow.
"That's no longer a choice." He shook his head closing the book on his desk.
"What if I destroy both and appoint rulers in both places? And I can live how I want?" I asked next.
He got a twinkle in his eye and nodded "you'd be the true ruler. But that could work."
"Then it's settled. I'll kill them both."
He held up his hand signaling me to wait. "You can't truly kill them."
"Wha-!?" If I couldn't truly kill them then how the hell do these people expect me to destroy them!?
"You have to create a realm to hold them both to allow them to fight it out. One they can never escape from."
I guess that sums that up. I needed to train, I needed to learn. I wanted my life back. I wanted to know who I could've been in this world. Most of all, I wanted my mom. Maye. I wanted my best friend. Stacey. I wanted, Landon. Looking at him sitting quietly soaking up all of his fathers' words I saw a glimmer of hope in his eyes when he looked at me. Like he wanted me too.
