Day One

Night - Will's Apartment

Will and Terri were having dinner with Will's parents. Sara and Ricky were here since Ricky's grandparents were here for dinner. It was tense and silent and awkward because Terri obviously didn't like having Sara and Ricky here.

"When did you start cooking, Terri?" Doodle asked.

Terri forced a smile. "Oh, it's just hamburger casserole. Look out for bones."

Will couldn't stay silent any longer. "I'm sorry, I, um..." He laughed lightly. "I can't hold it in any longer." He stood, raising his wine glass. "Um, Mom, Dad, Terri's pregnant."

Terri looked at him in alarm. "What?"

"It's a boy," Will told them.

Sara and Ricky nodded, managing small smiles. Mr. Schuester and Doodle smiled, laughing.

"Our second grandbaby," Doodle told them, laughing giddily, embracing Ricky.

"Okay, Grandma," Ricky told her.

The two parents stood to embrace Will.

"Give Doodle a break, Ricky," Mr. Schuester told him. "We haven't seen you or Sara since you two got back to town."

"Well, we're happy to be back," Sara told him.

Terri gave Sara and Ricky an annoyed look, turning to Will. "Sweetheart?"

"Yeah?" Will asked.

"I thought we weren't gonna tell anybody yet," Terri told him.

"Oh, your secret is safe with me," Mr. Schuester told them. "I spent six months in the Hanoi Hilton, never said a word. Am I right, Doodle?"

"That's right, honey," Doodle answered.

They laughed.

"Yeah, we're gonna turn the craft room into the nursery," Terri told them.

Doodle gasped. "Show me!"

Terri nodded nervously. "Okay."

Doodle took Sara by the hands, leading her with them. "Sara, please come with us."

Sara knew that Terri didn't want her around, but also knew that Doodle loved having her around, nodding nervously. "All right."

The three women left the room. Will, Ricky and Mr. Schuester clinked glasses, drinking.

"I'm really happy for you, Dad," Ricky told him.

"Tell you the truth, I'm terrified," Will admitted. "Dad, I missed out on a lot of Ricky's life because he and Sara left the state so they could find a way to help Sara's sister Jean get better, and while yes, having this son can help make up for the time lost... I don't want to miss out on anything again. And Ricky, I don't want to make you think that this means you're any less important in my life."

"Dad, it's fine," Ricky told him. "Really. You deserve another shot at this."

"Look at me, I was a mess," Mr. Schuester told him. "I worked all the time, traveling. I was too strict. But you, with what time you did have to raise Ricky with Sara, you did good."

"Thanks, Dad," Will told him, sighing. "I mean, I'm already up all night thinking about this. I wasn't very confident with my parenting skills with Ricky, let alone with this new baby."

"That's my fault, the confidence thing," Mr. Schuester told him. "Boys learn that from their fathers. I started at Zuckerman and Zuckerman in college. I needed some extra cash. I was saving up... for law school. But I never went. I never even applied. Didn't have the balls. So, I settled for insurance. I mean, who was I to become a lawyer?"
