Sister's Echo

Chapter 2

"How are we going to tell her?"

"I will tell her, When she wakes up I will talk with her and see where her mental state is."

"I cant believe shes gone."

My eyes snap open. I am in a hospital room, the stench of bleach almost made me double over and vomit again. I close my eyes and take a second to compose myself to ask what the heck is going on, but as that thought crossed my mind, the events of before I passed out crashed through my head. The breath was involuntarily knocked out of me. My dad, who I now realize was the one talking with the other man, came running to my side. He tried to touch me but I jumped away from his grasp.

My sister is gone? They said she is gone, that means she just at school right? That she is happy and at a student council meeting with all her friends right?

"Alicia? Do you remember what happened last night?" The man standing in the far corner holding a tablet said. I snap my head in his direction, my dad jumps but the man hold my gaze until I look away.

"Yes" when I speak it comes out raspy and cold. I made sure there wasn't a hint of emotion in my voice. I want Emilia here with me, she could chase away the nightmare of last night. "Dad," I pause and give him time to turn his full attention on me, "Can you call Emilia out of school and bring her here?" Dad looks as if he's seen a ghost, but after a minute he composes himself and nods his head.

"Yes of course honey, let me go make the call right now." I smile at the thought if Emilia coming to comfort me. Last nights dream was intense and felt so real, I must have passed out in gym class again, I always lifting more than my body can handle and at least once a month I'm in the hospital because I passed out. The weird man sits in one of the chairs after my dad leaves and stares at me. I never liked making eye contact with people so I looked away.

"Alicia, your sister is not at school," He paused, "I take a sharp breath in. She is dead."

"No shes not." I say, "she's just at school, they said she was just gone." I go to look for my dad making the call to the school but when I look out the window of the room I see dad holding mom and their both crying.

"Alicia, I am going to say this because you need to hear it. Elimia is dead. "

I lay back slowly on the bed, registering what he said. Emilia is dead. It seems like such a far fetched thought, theres no way it could be true. I think back to what I thought was a nightmare but now I realized how vivid the sensations were. All of a sudden I hear her voice.

Alicia Lets have a dance party! I look over to the bathroom door in my room, there she is, standing there is Emilia. I uncover my legs, which I now realize are bare, I slowly walk towards her. Lets have a dance party! She turns around and starts jogging into a shadowed area.

"Emilia wait up!" I yell at her willing my feet to go faster. She listens to me but when she turns around she has eleven stab wounds in her chest and is bleeding heavily. She falls over and drops to the floor, the thud of her hitting the ground slows my feet even more. She hold her chest and looks up at me, Lets have a dance party? There are tears streaming down her face and mine. "Emilia! Emilia Stay with me! We can have a dance party if you stay here!" I yell as my feet slowly move forward, it feels like my feet are encased in quicksand. She closes her eyes and disappears along with the darkness surrounding her. My feet start working and I run into the bathroom chasing the darkness, but when I finally reach the bathroom, it's simply a toilet and a sink. My knees give out and I hit the ground like a sack of potatoes. The doctor who was in the room picked me up and placed me back on my bed. I dont even feel the prick of the needle this time, I only feel an icy liquid run through my veins before I willingly closed my eyes.
