Selena's first album due her first work on a major label, the album was expected to draw and lure large audiences to Selena.
The goal of the album was to be introductory into the international Latin music with the future sights into an English Language takeover.
Selena reached number 7 on the US Billboard Regional Mexican albums.
Selena performed better than other recordings from the other contemporaneous female Tejano singers.
The album led Selena to win the Female Vocalist of the year at the 1990 Tejano Music Awards.
