A man was running for his dear life while trying his best to be silent as possible so his captor -that he managed to escape from- won't be able to hear him.
He was frantically looking everywhere, searching for a good place to hide and as if God was listening to him, he saw a big tree that he thought would hide his body well from his captor.
He went behind the tree, forcefully hiding his body between the gap of huge roots, his arms catching scratches and small wounds from doing so but that was not his first priority. All he wanted that time was to escape, completely.
Sounds of leaves crunching was heard not too far from where he was hiding, this caused him to stop any unnecessary movement and he even hold his breath, afraid that even the smallest thing could blow up his cover.
Another sound of crunching leaves could be heard.
One, two, three, four, five.
And when it finally stopped, a maniac laughed was heard throughout the forest.
The hiding man shivered in fear, no, fear would be an understatement to describe what he was feeling. The terrifying laugh was so loud it felt like his captor was just in the other side of the tree he was hiding in.
"You really think you can escape that easily?" His captor asked, venom dripping in his voice. He let out another laugh as if he was mocking the hiding man.
"You know," he took another step and another and another, "I don't left things I started unfinished."
After that, there was a deafening silence, no single movement was heard, as though someone paused the time.
He was beyond scared. His heart was beating quickly and loudly, and again, he was afraid that his captor might hear it.
He closed his eyes tightly. He wasn't a religious man but his life is in danger, and he was more than willing to do anything just to save his life, so he prayed to God or who ever is above to help him.
He begged.
He pleaded.
He opened his eyes to take a proper look in the forest and he was greeted by darkness. He couldn't see anything that much besides the endless amount of trees.
A tear rolled down in his face, it was quickly followed by another and soon, he was a silent crying mess.
He wanted to shout at the top of his lungs to let out all the anger, sadness and fear he was feeling.
Anger, because he didn't know what is the reason that lead his captor to do this to him. He could be innocent for fuck's sake.
Sadness, because there's a chance he wouldn't be able to see his beloved ones again.
Fear, because until now, there wasn't any movement was heard from his captor. As if he disappeared suddenly but he knew better than that.
Once again, he looked everywhere.
He searched in the darkness.
And then, suddenly–
"Boo." A voice said in front of him and he could see a shadow of what seemed to be a man.
The hiding man screamed so loud it made some nocturnal birds to flew away.
The captor chuckled darkly sending another shiver to now found man.
"P-please-" he wiped his tears vigorously, "-let me go! I w-won't tell anyone a-about this!"
"Do you think I'm stupid?" The captor chuckled again. "Won't tell anyone, my ass!"
He flinched from the tone of his captor's voice, annoyance and anger is audible to it.
But, he won't give up even though the chance of his captor letting him to escape is very, very, very slim.
Is there even a chance he will?
So, he asked, again.
"Please! I'm begging you!" he cried putting his hands together and rubbing them. "I-I'm very sorry for w-whatever I did!"
"Sorry?" The captor asked.
He lifted his left hand revealing an axe that shined in the darkness.
The crouching man widened his eyes. He was shaking in fear, he shook his head vigorously.
"N-no! P-please! Let m-me go!" his voice cracked because of fear and hoarse from all the shouting he did.
"I think it's a little bit too late for that." The captor laughed as he brought his axe closer to the man.
A shrill cry echoed in the mist.
