Question:
"When was the party?" she asked.
"Can't you tell me more?" he pressed.
"Are there any more pancakes?"

Exclamation:
"She saw them live!" he exclaimed.
"I can't believe it!" she yelled.
"No, I won't!" her father shouted.

When to use a comma instead of a period:
"Nothing can compare to her voice," my mom bragged.
"Everything seems to be normal," the teacher stated.
"Pick up the trash," he ordered.

When to use a period instead of a comma:
She continued to speak. "Nothing ever goes right."
"I don't like ketchup."
"People don't seem to realize that gender and race are two different things."
