Waking up to the glistening white snow that covered the ground outside was one of the most pleasant things to see on Christmas morning. Mary quickly got to her feet and wrapped a blanket around herself before heading downstairs to see what all was left under the tree, but to her surprise there was nothing.

The tree lights were plugged in and lit up, and on the fireplace mantle lay Santa's plate with a half eaten cookie and an empty glass of milk. It was weird Mary thought. Everything seemed how it always was, minus the gifts under the tree, but her parents were nowhere around either.

Mary searched the house for them and called out their names, but no one showed. Mary sighed and hugged her blanket closer around her, as she walked back to the living room to clean up the mess Santa had made, but as she walked in something had caught her eyes. Something that was not there before now lay under the tree.

Mary walked over to the tree and kneeled down to see a snow globe nestled on the tree skirt. Carefully, Mary picked it up with both hands and gently caressed the sparkling glass globe. Inside the snow globe were two familiar looking shadows. Mary tried to get a closer look but the figures were to blacked out to make sense of who or what they were. All of a sudden a loud crash came from the kitchen. Mary sat the snow globe down where she had found it and quickly bolted to kitchen.

"Mother?" Mary called out as she slowed down her pace just before reaching the kitchen entrance.

"Mother!" She called again louder this time feeling her heart beat start to quicken.

Peeking into the kitchen all of the hope and fear fled Mary's body. Her mother was nowhere to be seen nor her father, and nothing seemed to have been touched to have made that loud sound.

Walking back to the living room once again full of annoyance that soon turned to puzzlement once she saw what lay under the Christmas tree, along side the snow globe. A glossy red apple just about the size of the snow globe lay nuzzled into the tree skirt as well.

Dropping herself to the ground Mary picked up the sweet smelling apple examining it, before giving a slight shrug and taking a bite. This morning was all such a mess, she figured what hurt could it be to have a bite of this apple. All of a sudden her head began to feel like air as dizziness washed over her, sending her backwards to the floor letting the apple roll from her hand across the living room, while in the other hand Mary held tightly onto the snow globe.

Upon awakening Mary cold feel the coolness of little specks hitting her face, as if she was receiving a bunch of tiny kisses from bunnies. Slowly opening her eyes Mary saw the snow flakes that fall and surround where she lay in the snow. Sitting up quickly she took a look around to see the snow covered area of where she was. She didn't remember how she had gotten here, but she was filled with relief when she saw her parents standing not far out of her reach.

Jumping up and brushing the snow on her clothes, Mary ran over to them as fast as she could, flying into their warm- no, cold arms. Confused, Mary pushed herself away from her parents only to see they completely frozen, glistening ice statues. Actually looking around the place realization began to sink in as Mary but back tears. She and her family were trapped in a confined globe that now sat up on the mantle, overlooking their whole living room, and soon enough Mary knew she would end up just like her parents. A Pretty, cold, glistening statue of ice.
