wednesday night (a year later)

It's been a year since Amelia had begun her training and anyone would say she had vastly improved; she could almost defeat Natasha, and it was a close fight everytime.

Bucky stood off to the side, watching Amelia fight Clint. He knew that pretty soon Clint would tire and Amelia would overpower him. He grinned as he saw a sly smile curve Amelia's lips as she realized her victory. No matter how many times she fought Clint and won, she still felt a rush of accomplishment.

Clint slipped and tried to restore his footing, but that was all it took for Amelia to tackle him to the floor. She stood and brushed a few pieces of hair from her green eyes. She extended a hand to Clint to help him up and he gladly took it.

"Good fight," she called over her shoulder as she walked towards Bucky. She faced him and sent him a dazzling smile. The last year had brought about incredible change for her, physically and mentally. Jason had ran into her on the street once and started to lay into her, but she only flipped him off and kept walking. She smiled even more at the memory.

"Getting better and better everyday, sugar." Bucky handed her her water bottle and she gladly accepted it, wasting no time in taking a sip.

"So, any surprise dates planned tonight?" Amelia asked absentmindedly as she redid her ponytail. Bucky looked down at her in bewilderment and she chuckled.

"I know when you're planning something," she continued as she wrapped the elastic around her hair. "Can we just stay in and watch movies? Order tacos or something?"

Bucky sighed. "Doll, I had something really special planned and it means the world to me. Please, just this once?"

Amelia narrowed her eyes but nodded. "I'm gonna go take a shower now," she said as she sauntered off. "When is this mystery date?"

"Be ready at 8," Bucky replied as he watched Amelia walk through the doors with a nod. He sighed and shoved his hands in his pockets. He hoped tonight went well, and he hoped Amelia didn't find some crazy way to stop them from going. She wasn't really keen on going on fancy dates. She felt much more comfortable at home, lounging on the couch, which she made Bucky aware of everytime he managed to drag her out. He heaved another sigh and started to leave.

"Hey, why the sighs?" Clint asked from behind him. Bucky stopped and whirled on his heel.

"I'm just hoping she doesn't find a way to stay home tonight," Bucky explained. "I have something planned, and I need this to happen."

"I could get Nat to talk to her," Clint offered. "I'm sure she could persuade Amelia from staying in."

Bucky nodded. "Thanks, Clint." Then he turned again and continued on his way out.

Amelia heard a knock at the door of her and Bucky's shared room. She groaned and rolled off the bed, checking her phone as she walked towards the door.

"It's seven thirty, what are you doing not getting ready?" Amelia rolled her eyes at Natasha and opened the door wider for her to come in.

"I am just so tired and don't wanna go."

"Amelia, Bucky loves you, and so he puts up with your constant changing of plans. But this night is important to him, so start getting ready."

"Why is it so important? How would you know?"

Natasha shrugged. "Clint told me to talk to you. Apparently Bucky was worried you were going to chicken out, and with your track record, I would to."

Amelia looked down at her hands. She opened her mouth to protest, but then closed it. "You're right," she sighed. "I guess I just take advantage of that."

Natasha patted her shoulder. "Well, now that you've realized your faults, let's get you ready. What are you going to wear?"

Amelia glared at Natasha, then shrugged. "I don't know. Maybe that dress we bought at the mall that day?"

"The green one?" Natasha stared at the ceiling in thought. "That might work. Do you have any shoes?"

"I think I have some black heels," Amelia mused. She stood from the bed and moved to the closet. She searched for a good few minutes before pulling the out the emerald green knee length velvet dress.

Natasha grinned. "Get that on and I'll look for shoes. Keep your hair as it is, just run a brush through it."

Amelia nodded and scurried towards the bathroom. She pulled the dress over her head and then quickly brushed her hair. She walked out the door only to have Natasha shove a pair of heels in her hands and push her back into the bathroom. Amelia tried to protest, but Natasha held up a finger. "Bucky is knocking on the door looking for you."

Amelia nodded in understanding and retreated into the room, turning the lights off before she sat with her back against the door. She heard Natasha open the door and strained to hear the conversation. She checked her phone only to see it was five minutes to eight.

"Shit!" she whispered under her breath, trying to contain her nerves. Sure, she was dressed in a dazzling dress and Bucky always assured her that he loved her, forever and always, but she was still nervous. Something about eating in a fancy restaurant scared the hell out of her, and she couldn't fathom why.

Natasha opened the door suddenly and Amelia fell backwards, her head hitting the floor.

"Oh my god, are you alright?" Natasha asked frantically. Amelia grinned shakily and sat up. She stood and faced Natasha who handed her her shoes. Amelia slid them on and checked over herself one more time.

"Wish me luck!" Amelia grinned. Natasha gave her a smile back and ushered Amelia out of the door. Once the door shut behind her, Amelia took a deep breath and walked down the hallway to see Bucky.
