*Present Time*

"You're too slow." My Uncle, Diego, told me, shaking his head.

"You need to be faster. At this rate, the Vipers are going to kill you within a matter of minutes."

I grunted, sweat beading down my face as I dodged some of the guards that we had hired to help train us for our missions outside of the City.

"Unless I have an overprotective Uncle who doesn't trust me, I'll be okay... Oh wait, I do." I mumbled to myself.

"Say that again! I dare you!" Ethan said, throwing a punch at me.

I somersaulted, dodging the blow. I rolled my eyes.

Ethan - My Uncle's boyfriend - is a complete and utter ass. He has no respect and ego about the size of Australia.

If I could control my Uncle for a day, the first thing I would do is force them to break up.

The next thing that I would do is have Diego tell me who murdered my Father...

I hid behind a punchbag, listening to the footsteps coming around, I threw my fist out as he came around the corner.

They may be stronger and bigger, but I am more flexible and swift.

Blood sprayed from his nose, and I heard an all too familiar scream.

"...Oops." I said, cringing a bit at the noise Ethan made as he backed away, clutching his nose.

"Well, damn. You were finally able to beat Ethan." My Uncle said, walking over to Ethan and giving him a towel to hold against his nose.

"He didn't tell you?" I raised a brow, sounding confused even though I knew Ethan had told Diego that I've been beating his ass for the past three weeks since my abdomen has healed. My Uncle gave me a confused look, and Ethan snarled at me.

"Oh, well I've been kicking his ass- "

"Language, Annika." Deigo interrupted.

"Sorry - his BUTT - for the past three weeks. I guess he never told you. Maybe he just wanted me to seem vulnerable..." I said with a shrug.

He mouthed something that looked like Bitch to me, and I gave him a wicked smile.

"Really?" My Uncle said more than asked as he put a palm to his face.

I stifled my laugh and walked back over to the platform.

"Am I too slow now?" I asked, smirking as I start wrapping my wraps around my knuckles. No reply. I turn around and Diego isn't there, just Ethan smirking.

"Diego-" In a fraction of a second, I'm flat on my back, with Diego on top of me, holding a staff against my throat.

Shit.

"Well, at least now we know that you need work on not gloating." I groaned and rolled my eyes at him.

"Are you fu-" I catch myself, "You've got to be kidding me."

He stood up and removed the staff from my throat.

"That's going to bruise," I whined as I sat up.

"Well, you heal fast. Ethan on the other hand..."

I looked over my shoulder at Ethan, whose nose had stopped bleeding, but was now turning black and blue.

I snorted a bit too loudly at the site of it, and Ethan bared his teeth like some sort of dog.

I shook my head, trying to clear my thoughts.

"I'm going to take a bath. Don't bother me until dinner."

I said, setting my wrap that I had started enveloping my hand in before Diego decided to teach me a lesson. Though I should be grateful.

Usually, when he teaches a lesson, I stay strapped to a table and have an old man extract information in ways that I don't even want to think about.

About a month ago, I had refused to go on a mission and decided to try and punch Diego in the side. He caught my hand, twisted me backward, and pinned me to the ground. The next thing I knew, I was in the basement strapped down to a wooden table with a man peering over me with a dagger in his hand. He stuck it in my abdomen and it took a few weeks to recover. He tried to get me to confess things that no one knew.

To his dismay, I never once spoke. Only screaming when he twisted the dagger, and my blood started seeping through my clothes.

As soon as I screamed something that would have pierced through an eardrum, Diego came down to the basement. My god was I pissed at that man.

"That's enough!" He screamed at the man torchering me.

I stopped screaming due to my throat, which was now in pain, but he ripped the dagger out of my stomach and I screamed again, gasping for air.

"Bring the medic down,"

He said.

"She'll stay here for the night."

It was the last thing I heard before I passed out.

I touched my side as the memory flashed through my mind, and opened the door to my bathroom.

I slammed it shut and turned on the water, not opening the door for a long while.
