Two hours later, Diego finished explaining his plan and how I'm going to be playing my part.
"So, I'm going to have to get my ass kicked on purpose? What happens if they kill me, hm?"
I asked Diego.
"Trust me, they won't."
I rolled my eyes but kept listening.
"If you are caught, then you will need to gather information. If you can't, we will come to get you."
"I always gather information."
"Okay, I get that. But we are looking for a certain source of information. The 'A-series'. They are constructing a weapon that can take out cities. We need to know more information about it. What its made out of, when they are selling it, how it works."
I nodded. There's something a little off about this, but I'm not sure what.
"If I'm kidnapped, give me three and a half weeks exactly. Then come find me. Only at night though. I might be able to somehow scope out the area, find the A-thing you want."
He nodded as I turned and started climbing the stairs.
"Annika?"
"Yeah?"
Diego stopped me halfway up the steps.
"I wouldn't bring much with. I have a feeling you'll be there for a bit."
"What's that supposed to mean?"
I asked, confused and slightly offended.
"What I mean, is that this gang isn't what you're used to. They're strong. Yes, you are fast and smart, but they will squish you like a bug if you aren't careful."
I looked at him. Somethings wrong.
"You're hiding something."
I say, tilting my head to the side.
"I don't know what you mean."
He said, turning away and walking down the stairs.
"Change and get in the car."
I roll my eyes and head to my room to change.
- - - -
An hour later, Diego stopped on an old abandoned road.
"Walk five blocks down this road. Take a left and walk down a path through the woods until you see a mansion. Stay behind the trees and monitor the building. If I'm right, there will be three stationed at the front gate, four on each side of the house, and two along the back. I would suggest taking the back window. It is less guarded, and no one will see you as long as you get the job done quickly. I will be back in approximately four hours in this exact spot. If you aren't here, I will assume you have been kidnapped and we will give you three and a half weeks as you asked. Also, you better hope that Alejandro doesn't come looking for you. He will ruin the whole mission."
I nodded to Diego and got out of the car, walking down the road and away from him. Diego turned around and left.
I pulled out my earbuds and phone to turn on some music so I can have something to do while I'm walking.
'I'm So Tired' came on and I started walking quickly.
What felt like hours later, I finally saw lights. I made sure that my ringer was off on my phone and pocketed it.
Sticking to the shadows, I walked to the opening to find, indeed, a mansion. A very fancy, big mansion. I made my way towards the back of it, still sticking by the trees. As Diego had said, two very strong looking men were guarding the back doors.
I walked farther back and my jaw dropped.
There's an ocean view. THERE'S A FUCKING OCEAN VIEW.
Jesus, how rich are these people?
I'm pretty sure my jaw hit the ground when I saw the balcony. I quickly closed it, however, when I saw Lilith Valentine looking out at the ocean.
She was just how Diego described her. Long Dark Chocolate hair, thin body, and around 5'6. Beautiful, if it weren't who she was. What she stood for.
I rolled across the ground and into a side bush to get a closer look at my surroundings.
When I knew where to go and what I should do, I pulled out my dart gun, aimed, and shot at the two guards underneath the balcony. There was a soft 'thud' as they fell, but I was already moving. I aimed to where Lilith's neck was and fired.
She fell to the marble floor on the balcony. I shot one of my grappling hooks to the balcony, it catching on one of the pillars, and ran for the nearest tree.
I triple knotted the wire to it.
As soon as I was sure the wire was sturdy I started sliding my way up the wire and to the balcony.
By the time I was up there, my hands were aching. Even with the gloves, they felt like they were in a fire. I grabbed Lilith and hoisted her over my shoulder, grunting at her weight. Shouts came from inside the house.
I grabbed onto the wire again and slid down, hitting the ground and rolling. Lilith with me. More shouts came as men and women rushed out from the side and front of the house.
But I was already up and running with Lilith over my shoulder. I made it into the woods, already tired from holding Lilith. I stumbled a step, dropping her. That stumble cost me. Footsteps sounded from behind and when I stood up -
When I stood up, Chance Valentine was looking at me. Scanning me. The only sign of alarm he showed was the rolling of his shoulders. I reached for my gun at my side.
He remembers me.
Shit-!
Everything went black.
