Buddy's POV
I was awakened by the sound of people. I got up, stretching. Today I was planning to go back to the farm, but for some reason, I didn't want to. I just wandered around the streets, staying out of trouble. I felt light little snowflakes start falling on my head. It's snowing I thought. I wanted to find some where warm, so I aimed for the little grassy area that was a little beyond the city. There were trees there and small picnic areas I could stay under. I ran there as the snow was falling faster now. Once I got there, I aimed for the picnic areas, but something caught my eye. There was food, laying right smack in the middle of the frozen lake. A person must have dropped it, and some how it landed there. No I thought. It was very risky. But like the stupid dog I am, I tried to go after it. At first, I pressed my two front paws on the ice, just to make sure it was safe. Then I put all four of my legs on the frozen lake. I slowly eased up on the plastic bag filled with food. As soon as I could reach it, I grabbed it with my jowls and ran back as fast as I could. But apparently, not fast enough. The ice started cracking beneath my feet, I tried to scurry off, but it was too late I fell through the ice. I started panicking. I tried to swim up, but all I felt was the ice bumping against my head. I tried to find the place where I had fallen under, but it was no use. I was tired and weak as I felt my life slipping away. But suddenly I felt something clamp on to my scruff, it was another dog, trying to pull me up. The dog was a great swimmer, and found the spot where I fallen under, and pulled me up there. I breathed, it was good to have oxygen again. The dog shook of its fur and faced me. I did the same. "Thank you," I woofed very grateful. "No problem," the dog woofed back. It was a girl, I could tell by the scent and the voice. She was a husky, with bright blue eyes. "I'm Kiley," she woofed happily. "Buddy," I barked. "What were you doing walking on ice like that?" Kiley exclaimed. "Trying to get food," I woofed, hoping she would understand. She had no collar, either she was also a stray, or her owner didn't get her one. "The things dogs do for food," she woofed half-jokingly. "Well, it's not so easy getting food," I shot back. "You don't think I know that?" she barked. So she was a stray. "What happened?" she asked. "What do you mean?" I barked. "I mean why are you as stray?" Kiley woofed. "I really don't like telling my life to random dogs," I woofed as I started walking away. But she stopped me. "Your not telling it to a random dog, your telling it to a dog who just saved your life," she retorted. I considered this for a moment. How much did that really mean? "I was just born one," I gave in. "Lucky," she woofed. "How is that lucky?" I barked. It was nothing but lucky, looking for shelter, fighting for food, scraping out life in some people-filled city? That was the opposite of lucky. "Because you don't have to go through the stages from being loved, than being unloved," she barked sadly. "Why are you a stray?" I asked her. "I used to be a sled dog, it was actually pretty fun, and it made you feel good that by just running, you were making a difference in peoples' lives. Me and my sled mates were happy. Until, our owner sold us, to these cruel people, who barely fed us, barely let us run around, and if we did wrong, we were in a bunch of trouble. But one day, I found an opportunity to escape. But before I did, I promised my sled mates that I would come back for them, but with other dogs, lots of dogs, and we can over power those cruel people, and we can all run free, and that's what I've been doing ever since," Kiley barked. Then something happened, Kiley's face had come to sudden realization, and out of know where she asked "Do you want to join me?"
