Sombra, then known as Olivia Colomar, was only a child when she lost both parents to the Omnic Crisis when it struck her home town. Persevering through famine, illness, and everything else that came after the attack, she developed a disdain for those in power, prompting her to do dealings with the Los Muertos gang and later joining said gang all together. Her objective from then on was to take down the powerful figures corrupting Mexico.
However, things changed when Olivia got in too deep, and was discovered by an unknown force. She fell off the map, Olivia Colomar was legally dead. During this time away, she was receiving augmentations, most specifically to her spine and to her head, allowing her to quite literally fuse with her tech. She rose with a new name, Sombra - Shadow -, ready to find out who the force was. She later joined Talon, hoping to use their resources for her own gain right under their noses. In this time, she also exposed LumeriCo for it's corruption. At a later date, she blackmailed Katya Volskaya with a secret only herself and ZARYA knows of.
Sombra will stop at nothing to get what she wants, and being alone all her life has taught her one thing: trust nobody. From the oldest man to the youngest child, anybody can be a liability in her quest to hack the planet.
