The Party

Your POV

The rest of the day passed rather slowly. Rei's lessons on the history of something were nothing but a blur. Not only history, but everything else as well.

There was still an hour before Rei and I were to leave for the party, and I was fidgeting nervously as akane attempted to brush my hair out.

I was sitting on the small white couch in my dressing room

"Please sit still My lady, I do not want to harm you." Akane carefully ran the brush through my hair once again.

"I'm sorry Akane, I'm just a bit nervous for tonight," I looked down at my lap "what if I embarrass myself? I haven't even left the manor in two and a half years let alone been a party. Not just a party, a phantomhive one." I began rubbing my index fingernail against my thumb from an increase of nervousness.

Akane had already chosen an elegant dress with the help of Rei and my mother. It was long and rather simple. It was by no means a thick heavy dress of a thousand layers, instead it was only a couple. The selves were long and draped down at the ends, but the see through lace came up to my shoulders and some below my collar bone. The same lace was used to create a detailed waist line, as well as line the edge of the bottom. The entire dress was a deep royal blue color.

Akane proceeded to put my hair into an elegant swirl. A braid on the right side led back and magically joined the rest of my hair in the back. A few carefully chosen strands hung freely around my face.

Considering I refused to let my face be caked with makeup the last thing remaining was my least favorite of all. Heeled dress shoes.

By the time it was all set and done my mother joined us in my dressing room. She was holding a small box green velvet box in her hands. Rei came in behind her dressed in a dark tail coat. He looked more elegant than ever, though in his hands he held the devilish contraptions that would boost my tiny height.

"(Y/n), I have something I want you have. It is one of two heirlooms and I think it would be fitting if you wore this one tonight." She opened the box to reveal a silver pendant in the shape of a bird taking flight. It's eye held a single blue stone, a tiny shard of a blue diamond.

"It's beautiful! Is it the one that same one that grandmother used to wear all the time?" I looked up at her face. Her eyes looked to be hiding something, as if she was saddened.

Or angry?

What was that look on her face?

"Yes dear it's the exact same one. I did say it was an heirloom did I not?" She lightly shook her head and moved behind me.

Carefully she removed the delicate piece of jewelry from its box and clasped it around my neck.

It was much heavier than it had appeared in the box. Nevertheless it  was beautiful, and completed the dress I was currently wearing.

I hugged her tightly, but was cut short when she abruptly pulled away. The same emotion as previously returned to her eyes. She said nothing as she walked away.

"Mastress, I hate to burden you but it is time for you to put these on. We must leave within the hour."

~Time skip~

After Rei had made some final touches to my hair and dress he temporarily left. He returned changed into another suit more fitted for the occasion, and then rushed to get me into the carriage, insisting we were going to be late.

I had caught a glimpse of my mother and father entering their carriage a bit behind mine. Her eyes no longer were the only thing holding something in, her entire face held it. As well as my fathers.
