'What were we even thinking?'
My tiny heart beats quickly as I hide behind the seething coals, I could feel my face heating up as I try not to flinch from the fire burning overhead. It was way too hot here, and impossible as it is to take on a dragon of this size.
I remember now, it wasn't even our idea to take on a boss of this size. It was all Qrow's and Kai's fault that the rest of us was even dragged into this mess. It was the last boss we had to defeat before reaching the end goal, but we've run out of supplies and tools. Not to mention that this boss seemed to be the toughest we would ever face, 'or will ever face if we don't make it out alive'.
You could almost feel the intense aura from outside the room, it just seems to be over-filling and leaking out. However, despite our reasons and logic to head back to base, Kai had to just encourage the idea that we could make it. Qrow was quick to follow in pursuit, and so were a couple others of the group, like Shawn. Though not everyone who was fighting was dragged into it, like Rex who tried to stop the guys from going, he ended up getting trapped in the battle as well.
This was due to the fact that as soon as the guys ran out, multiple gates of flame surrounded the area, causing our group to be split and allowing for no one to go in or out. That left Aura, Pine, and I, along with a few others vying for them on the outside.
We watched as they 'heroically', no that's not the right word, as they 'naively fought with bravery' against the beast. Some of us couldn't bear to see it, they got hurt, burned, and a few even burst into ashes. One by one they were knocked out, left to bleed to death, if not immediate death by the flames. We had to do something. That's when I noticed that the fiery gates had small openings between the bars. I looked to the rest of the group who were either watching intensely as the scene unfolded before them or was discussing our next steps. 'It couldn't hurt to try, plus I don't think I could bear to stand here any longer'.
I took a deep breath and closed my eyes, I felt the world rapidly grow around me. I opened one eye at a time to try and help myself from feeling dizzy, after all I did shrink to the size of around 5 centimeters.
I slightly look behind me to see, a beautiful pair of light-blue wings. I move one and then the other, before fluttering up. My heart was already beginning to race from anticipation from what I was about to do.
I take another deep breath 'It's now or never'. I take a moment to close my eyes and imagine the path I was going to take and where I was going to go. I quickly open my eyes and with my wings furiously fluttering, I zipped through the, or at least what felt like, the burning gates of hell. For a moment I actually thought my wings were gonna melt from the intense heat, leaving me for dust, well technically ash. Thank the multiverse, that did not happen.
I quickly flew around the edge of the battle grounds, Rex had been knocked unconscious on the ground, and Qrow was no where in sight. The one conscious, and surprisingly unhurt challenger left, was Kai. Then again, it did make sense, Kai was and is the fastest of all of us. He had the superpower of agility, he could probably run faster than the speed of light if he wanted too. Though, if he did, then it would be a guarantee that he would crash and render himself unconscious the moment he tried.
He was currently running away from the beast, looking around trying to find a weak spot. Except, while he was looking at the head of the dragon, he missed that the tail of the fearsome draco was in full swing to the back of his head. 'I'm close enough.' It didn't take long for me to fly near the dragons eye. I concentrate and a shard starts forming, piece by piece. Once finished, I quickly grab it and hurl it at the dragons eye. Though, given my current size, the icy shard ended up being about the size of the tooth pick. Still, it was enough to irritate the dragon, who narrowly misses Kai. The ice piece quickly turns to steam as the dragon recovers to see what nuisance distracted him from his prey.
The dragons pupil centered, I swear it could see right through my soul, smelled the fear that was coursing through my veins. I flew, flew for the very essence of my life. I dodge through skeletons of previous fighters, now that I think about it, they could have been the skeletons of my friends.
I didn't care. No, I couldn't care.
I was flying for my life and that was the one thing I was concentrating on as I swerved past many rocks and boulders. I don't know if the dragon actually saw me, I pray it didn't. I've already seen what it done to many of my friends, and me, being an ice type, could be incredibly weak to it. I couldn't survive much less fight this thing even if I wanted too.
I eventually made full circle, and hid behind a couple of boulders. I start a few breathing exercises, 'in and out, in and out', and that leads me to where I was before I started telling this story.
I managed to calm myself enough to be able to look around, I look around to see Genji who was supporting himself against one of the boulders. I was honestly surprised, he wasn't the type to rush head first into battle. He was grasping his leg, I would assume it's broken but I couldn't get close enough to completely see it. Though, he wasn't paying attention at his leg, he was more so squinting his eyes at me.
I flew a bit closer, so he could see me better. "What are you doing here?". His face flickered with recognition before snapping back "I could ask you the same question. What do you think I'm doing here?"
I take a moment to think before saying "Well, right now you are clearly hiding from the dragon while clutching your hurt, maybe even broken, leg?". He clearly sighs before retorting "I didn't want to even be here, I was just trying to stop Kai from running head first into battle. I just got dragged into it okay?"
"Ahhh, that makes quite a bit more sense." I said while nodding in contemplation. I curiously watch as Genji ties a pink scarf around his hurt leg, that was at least until I heard a shrill scream. It was the type of scream that scratches the back of your neck, to the point where it feels like it could be bleeding. Both of us turn in panic to see the source of the horrific screech.
We see Kai, he was lying on the ground, he seemed perfectly fine in all honesty...except for the fact that a huge boulder was lying on top of him!
Just watching the scene could make it feel like your trapped under the rubble, the pressure building up on your rib cage as your lungs struggle to take in another breath.
Suddenly, I feel a wave of wind as Genji takes a step forward. I end up doing a backflip, in order to stabilize myself. I'm not really used to being in the air this much, it's not everyday I turn into a pixie after all.
He doesn't bother to turn and look at me, '...or doesn't bother to apologize for almost making me fall'. "I guess it's my turn again" he says with a hint of determination in his voice. With that he put's two fingers in front of his face and disappears like a ninja.
I turn to see that he was all the way at the boulder and was in the middle of picking it up to get Kai out of there. I glance at the dragon, who seemed to be searching for it's missing target.
'Oh God, please hurry'.
