I stand in the middle of the square with my friends, it‘s our first reaping and we‘re only twelve. I hope none of us get reaped.

Magenta Trinket, District Elevens escort, walks out of the Justice Building and she‘s dressed in her silly Capitol clothes.

She’s wearing a magenta colored wig, pink eye shadow and purple lipstick and her clothes are fuchsia. I don’t understand why she dresses like this, nobody in District Eleven would dream of dressing like that.

“Welcome, Welcome…” she starts talking like usual and the mayor reads the treaty of treason but I’m not listening because I’ve heard it so often and I think it’s very boring.

“Now the time has come to select one courageous young man and woman for the honor of representing District Eleven in the 74th annual Hunger Games. Now I’m going to change things and choose the boy first.”

Magenta walks over to the bowl on her right side and takes her time choosing the name. When she finally chooses the name she walks back to the center of the stage and reads out the name:

"Thresh."

I watch him walk up the step to the stage. She asks for volunteers but the whole square is silent, he doesn’t look like he could care. If I were his size I wouldn’t be afraid to go into the Games.

He’s 18 and he’s really big. His arms are twice the size of most of district eleven's boys and his skills are much greater than any other that I have seen too. Thresh could win the Games this year.

“Now it’s time for the girl,” she says. I’m really nervous because I had to take some tesserae so my name is in 8 times and it make me more likely to be Reaped but I hope an older girl get Reaped because I’m the oldest in my family and my siblings depend on me.

She’s choosing the girl tribute to die, I’m freaking out right now! I really don’t want to be Reaped!

"This years female tribute is Rue.”

Rue!

I can’t believe that I’m going to have to go into the Games. Everyone is staring at me and Magenta is calling me to the stage. I hug my friends and head up to the stage.

She asks for volunteers but like usual no one volunteers; even though I’m 12 they act like they couldn’t care less but I know they don’t like it but they just don’t  want to lose their life.

I walk to the center of the stage. Magenta talks some more but I’m not listening. Me and Thresh shake hands, his huge fingers gripping onto my child- like hands, and as I look up into his dark hazel eyes I think I see him smile but I’m not sure.
