Part 6 - Further Training - Rue's P.O.V

When I wake up the next morning I momentarily forget what Chaff told us last night about Carmela and his Games. 

I‘m really scared now because I don‘t want that to happen to me.

No one has knocked on my door yet so I wonder what time it is. I get out of bed and get dressed.

I walk into the dining room but no one’s here yet. I sit down and wait a couple of minutes for the others but they don’t show up. 

A woman with blonde hair comes out with more food and I ask her if I can start serving myself even though the others aren’t here yet but she doesn’t say anything.

“Excuse me. May I start serving myself?” I ask louder but she still doesn’t answer me and I know she heard me because she was looking at me.

She’s looking around for something or someone because now I hear footsteps coming from the opposite direction of the bedrooms. And I see- 

A young man with dark hair and brown eyes comes towards us. He looks about 19 years old and I start crying, I know him.

“Brier!” I squeal and run towards his open arms. “I Missed you so much! What happened to you? Why weren’t you in the Games last year? When Magenta came she reaped another girl! Do you remember my friend, Eytelia? She was reaped and she was killed!”

I’m crying so much now.

“Rue, what you doing?!” Seeder is running towards me.

“PUT HER DOWN!” Magenta squeaks. I look behind me and Chaff, Seeder and Magenta are frowning at me but Thresh is just staring at Brier.

He puts me down but I take hold of his neck and I hear Magenta whispering something to Chaff and he comes and tears me from Brier. 

They tell both of them to leave and I’m crying hysterically.

“Seeder, calm her down please.” Chaff says.

“Hey, Rue, it’s okay. What’s wrong? Was he trying to hurt you?” She said. I can’t believe she would think that.

I stand up off the chair I was sitting in and start running to my room but Thresh catches me and takes me to the couch and sits me on his lap. 

I cry into his shoulder.

“He is Rue’s brother.” Thresh tells them, I look up and see Seeder and Chaff just staring at me, speechless but Magenta is shaking her head.

Seeder and Chaff are looking at each other and nodding.

“Why are you nodding?” I ask them.

“Because we remember him.” Seeder tells me.

“Well, why is he here?” Magenta asks. I have to think for a moment to remember that she wasn’t our escort last year but I can’t remember our old escorts name.

All I remember was that I didn’t like him.

“Do you remember the last District 11 escort, Magenta?” Chaff asks her. Magenta only nods. “Well, Brier was reaped last year when he was 18 and after he was done saying goodbye to his family in the justice building he was led out to the train with their escort, and his little sister,”

Everyone is now looking at me but I wasn’t the one who ran up to him.

“ran up to him to hug him one last time but their escort pushed her away and she fell and broke her arm. He then pulled Brier into the train and his last words to them was, “I’ll always remember you, Caroline.” He says.
