"Hijab is a personal choice. It is personal choice to submit to Allah(God) rather than the fashion of society. To be beautiful to God rather than people."
Yasmin Mgahed

Asrah pov

i got home Abit later as a result of traffic snarl up ....i alighted from the taxi and paid the driver.
I entered the living room with salam and was surprised to meet my mother's brother around. It usual that when you see him around there is either a problem or something good (only God knows which).

me: Ahh! Uncle! Ure here?(with suprise written all over my face) .....welcomes sir.

Uncle: thanks dear…how r u?!

me:iam good..... Alhamdulillah.
It's unusual to see u during the weekdays. Hope all is well!

Uncle: Thank God u too know how busy my schedules use to be....for u to have seen me here during a working day  means there is something important that brought me which is you Asrah .
Have your seat.

I was giving a sigh while looking at her dad:Na’am sir! Me! Hasbuna Allah i pray is well (i sat on the single seat available).

Uncle: see am not here to waste time but give my advice to you and leave u to your wish, if you are not ready to take my advice.

father: (cut in)I didn't call u here to leave her do her wish o...make sure u talk and she agree to whatever u say. Because it seems she won’t listen mine that why I called someone from her mother side. Because it seems she respected you all.

Uncle: baban Asrah. Always be patient please. Iam sure u called me here for peace.

Aunty Asrah!

How true is what I heard?!

me: Am not sure about what u heard sir, if it's all about handshaking things at the interview place....then all is right!

Uncle adjusting his seat: Good!
So can u tell me how in this era we are can u get job without shaking hand with opposite sex?

me: Allah has promised to give a way out for whosoever fear Him....
I fear Allah's wrath and thus didn't want to go against his messenger commandment when he forbade touching the opposite sex.

I had the believe that  if that job was destined for me then it won't go to any other than myself....and if I am to loose it then it was also destined....I might compromise my religion and still loose it....so what's the point?!

Father: U see?! That’s the rubbish sermon she will be giving every time we talk.....

Uncle: I said u should be patient uncle! Else I will leave o! And leave you with her.

Asrah !will u hear from me?!
I don't know of any company or Organisation or firm that will employ someone with your kind beliefs and even mode of dressing... as a lawyer don’t forget what happened to you during your call to bar ceremony.

If u truly don’t want all your years of schooling and your father's struggles on u go in vain...u need to go by the society's norms....else you end up jobless.

That's all I have to say to u.

me: daddy and uncle! I want u both to know that Allah don't forsake his slave...sooner or later He grants his wishes once he follows his commandment!
We shouldn't because of this tiny world keep compromising our Deen.

Father: Am sick of you already!

me : you might be so now but be the happiest in the next few seconds!

Uncle: How do u mean?!

I brought out my acceptance letter and gave to her father.

My uncle who was beside my father gave glance at the paper and both were astonished of what they read!

Uncle: baban Asrah! can u see what am seeing at all?! (smiling )

Father : But my baby !how did u come across this?!(with suprise written on his face)

This is an acceptance letter when I have thought u are coming back with rejection letter ....what happened?! How manage?

I said with pride: Nothing daddy other than the fact that I prayed to Allah and He didn't forsake me....

He has destined the job to be mine...neither my hijab nor handshake refusal stood at Allah's will. All this while that i was rejected the jobs are not mine that why.

Uncle with a relief: Ehnmmm! Baban Asrah!I tink what u called me for is now solved right?!

"Toh Asrah work is settled, and i think for a lady of your age the next step should be.....? "

Father : marriage ooooo Abdulmajeed tell her, I want to have a inlaw soon and i want to see my grandchildren before i die

Uncle : so daughter that should be your next target, may Allah Albarkate your life and give u a companion as a patner. I think everything is solved now.
Alhamdulillah! Please let me take my leave now....will see Barakah On Saturday since she is not around today.....

I  walked my Uncle to the gate, we stood for some minutes where he gave me little fatherly advices and bidded him good bye.

I walk back to the house and sit beside my dad.

My father was still suprise : he looked at me with suprise again my daughter thank you. For this. May Allah bless it up for you. Senior Advocate of Nigeria or the attorney General of fedration soon.

I responded with ameen 🙏 I stood up and said: I'm tired need some rest! Dad will see u later.

Father with joy: Aah! My Asrah mai Albarka (blessed girl)! Should we go out to celebrate this? u must have been hungry! By now

I said with a faint smile: thank u daddy ... maybe if Barakah returned from work . Iam not really hungry.

Father: een Asrah! You too know that all my shouting are for nothing but your own sake...,..you know iam doing it for the love I have for you.

Me: And Alhamdulillah your wish have lastly been granted.
Let me have some rest please then I gist u!

Father mockingly: Gist or give sermon?! mallama Asrah UDUS just change my daughter completely

Just as I was about walking out of the living room.  my sis came in with salam

Barakah:good afternoon dad, how are you doing...

daddy : welcome back dear... How is work?

Baraka :Alhamdulillah! Hey sis whatsup? (she said turning to me) i could see everyone is happy what is it?

Daddy : baraka iam the happiest man on earth come closer.. (she walks towards him dropping her bag on the chair)

Your sister have secured a job. At a very big and recognised law firm in Nigeria. (he said with joy
).

Baraka : wow! This call for a celebration..... Daddy iam very happy for her... I Am sure it will be a cold cash salary... (she ran towards me and gave me a rib crushing hug)

"congratulations favourite sis, momma and bestie " she added

" Thank you fish" I responded with smile

"I need to have some rest. I will see u later dad says we will be going out so prepare "I  added and walked straight to my room.
