A/N: I know I took an eleven month break, but I had some issues I needed to sort out. I am the worst possible time scheduler there is and for that I really am sorry and hopefully i will try to put up another update in a day or two.
Veranna was lost.
She didn’t know where to turn or who to turn to for that matter. Her feelings were foreign to her. She had long lived her life in isolation, with her little sister Arial, but now Jayden has seemed to slither his way into her life. Invading every single space present in her clouded brain and beaten heart.
It has been a week since she went out with Jayden to the mall after he saved her ass from Eero. After all the horrid events that happened that day and the punishment that followed, she was sure she deserved a break. Veranna wanted a break from all this drama that decided to surface up especially after Jayden and her little lunch at the mall.
Veranna smiled reminiscing that day.
He had taken Veranna to a little burger hotspot in the mall, claiming that it sold the juiciest burgers and the crispiest fries in town. Veranna reluctantly agreed trying to give this acquaintanceship a chance, before she squashed it with the sole of her shoe. Jayden had slid into a booth in the far corner of the grill as he nodded to the seat across of him telling her to sit.
It was a small shop, with a large counter and bartender ferociously scrubbing the granite countertop, as most of the bar stools were empty with no one occupying them as it was still early in the afternoon. Except for the usual customers who sat and decided to kill some time with beer in hand. Then there were the booths on the sides of the brown walls for those that not only came for a drink, but a qualified meal alongside with it. Waitresses were buzzing around trying to get to everyone.
Shortly after staying silent and observing the main aspects of the cozy grill a waitress came and asked for their ID’s. Glancing at their ID’s she wanted to confirm their age, to see if they qualified for any alcohol beverages or meals, but they were only seventeen so she offered them the nonalcoholic menu before she left, to give them an opportunity to look over the menu.

“Why are you so grim?” Jayden asked, as he took a rather large bite of his double-stacked burger. He was trying to start a conversation, getting tired of the silent tension between them. “I mean-” He swallowed, “You are probably the first girl I see so serious all the time. Do you even know how to smile?” He emphasized the ‘how’ to see if it would get a reaction out of the ice sculpture in front of him.
Veranna tilted her head a little to the right staring at him, looking down at her untouched meal. She sighed taking a long deep breath. “Why should I lie to myself and smile, when it will mostly likely come out as a grimace? I would rather have a stone expression than betray who I am.”
“Wow. That’s deep,” he chuckled, words heavy with sarcasm.
“I am serious.”
“Gosh, can’t you take a joke, at least try to crack a smile and I’ll tell you if it looks anything like a grimace Veranna.” For the first time Veranna felt her heart in her throat, enjoying the sound of her name rolling from the tips of his tongue.
Her name almost seemed exotic. Almost.
Gasping she turned a complete 360, returning to her cold self. “If you happen to finish your lunch, I would like to go back to school now.” She didn’t trust herself to stay any longer around him, fearing that she might let loose and actually befriend him.
