Today's the day I finally take a look into the wizarding world. I got my Hogwarts acceptance letter a few days ago, and a man named Hagrid is supposed to be coming to take me to buy everything today before heading to Hogwarts next week. He's going to be here in an hour. I'm already dressed in my best-fitting cloths (my jumper still hangs off my shoulders to expose my freckled collar bones, and my trousers have had to be tied with parcel string so they don't fall down) and I've finished my chores for the morning. So far I've managed to keep out of the way of Vernon and Dudley, Petunia has been trying to help me get away from them. She's always so kind to me... She says I look exactly like Mother.A gentle knock sounds on the door of my cupboard. That's Petunia; the other two wouldn't knock that quietly, if at all. I push it open and her face peeks round the corner.
"Are you ready to go Haz?" I smile at her softly.
"Yep. I've even got my trunk packed for next week."
"Good boy. I'll try keep them out of your way until you go... You know I will try to protect you, right?" I tell her I know and she gives me a soft hug, attempting not to hurt the various bruises and slashes in my back and sides. Petunia always looks after me. She helps clean my cuts when Dudley or Vernon hurt me and she makes sure I always have food. I like Petunia.I keep myself entertained until there's a knocking on the door. A moment later Petunia calls me and I make my way to the door. There's a very large man there with a jolly smile. If assume he's Hagrid.
" 'Ello 'Arry! I'm Hagrid. I've come to take ya to Diagon Alley. " I smile at him and shake his hand to be polite. I hug Petunia gently and then follow Hagrid. Quite a while later we reach a dead end. He taps the wall with his wand twice and whispers something. The wall fades away until a bustling road can be seen.We walk through into the mass of people and head to the bank. Hagrid introduces me to an elf, produces a 'vault key' and I'm hurried along into a minecart. When I'm shown into my vault I'm blown away by all of the gold, silver and bronze filling the room. In one corner I see a wooden chest. I open it, out of curiosity, to be met by a pure white egg. I touch it as gently as I can and it starts to crack.
Once it's finished cracking a white snake emerges. It's head rubs my hand and it hisses at me.
"New Master!" I stroke it's scaled head.
"You may call me Harry. Do you have a name?"
"Ooh! And you're a speaker. No, Harry, I have no name. Care to give me one?" I pause for a moment and try to think of something creative. I remember reading a Latin book once and decide the word for snake should do.
"Anguis." The snake simply slithers up my now outstretched arm. I turn to see a very surprised pair of males.
"You're a parselmouth?" I obviously look as confused as I feel, as Griphook proceeds to explain that it means I can talk to snakes. I shrug and confirm. I guess that's pretty rare for the wizarding world then.I buy a bag off of Griphook so I can draw money straight from my vault and then Hagrid and I leave to go shopping. We get all the books and other boring supplies first, as he didn't want me to get bored at the end of our trip. We then head over to Madam Malkin's, which I discovered to be a clothing shop, specializing in robes. The second I step through the door a woman rushes me up onto a pedestal next to a blonde.
"Hogwarts dearie?" The woman asks as a tape measure starts to measure me, no one holding it.
"Yes please, Ma'am." The pretty blonde next to me looks me up and down with distain.
"Ginger hair, hand me down cloths... Let me guess, you're a Weasley?" I don't know what he means.
"What's a Weasley?" He seems releaved and then launches into a speech about how they're 'blood traitors with more children then galleons'. I simply nod along as if I understand. When he's finished in his tangent he shoved out a hand for me to shake."I'm Malfoy, Draco Malfoy. What's your name?"
"I'm Harry Potter." I answer as I shake his hand. Recognition flashes through his grey blue eyes.
"The Harry Potter?! No way! That's so cool. Can I see your scar? How did you do it? Are you really going to go to Hogwarts? Can we be friends?!" He rambles. He doesn't even seen embarrassed by his rambling.
"Yes? Do what? I am actually going to Hogwarts, and sure we can be friends." He seems so awestruck by me. Honestly I don't quite know how to react to all his excitement."Mother and Father are in different shops finishing up for me. They'd love to meet you. Can I introduce you?" I tell him once we're finished I wouldn't mind. I think it might be nice to meet his parents. He seems sweet enough. I'm just surprised someone other than Petunia wants to talk to me...
The woman finally comes back with both our robes and our uniforms and we pay her with a smile. We walk out the front of the shop. He points at Hagrid.
"Say, look at that man!" I smile at Hagrid as he waves.
"That's Hagrid. He's been the one teaching me about magic. I was raised by muggles."
"Muggles?! Are they kind? What are muggles like, anyway?" We walk towards Hagrid together as I explain that all muggle families are different, and my one happens to suck, except for Petunia. I then introduce Hagrid and Draco. Together we walk towards Olivianders, Hagrid seeming rather tense. The wand shop is ran by quite a strange old man. He seems sweet enough though. After about five minutes of measuring and fifteen minutes of waving my hands over shoeboxes, waiting for a tingle, we both finally have our wands. Apparently my 'sister wand' belonged to someone called 'he-who-shall-not-be-named'. Draco promised he'd tell me what that meant on the train when we leave. It sounds like a name Vernon would call me. I'm so excited to finally be away from the Dursleys...
