He got a bike

For his twelfth birthday

He didn't think his parents

Knew it was too tall for him

He was the shortest in class

(Well, second to last)

And that powder-blue bike

Taunted his height

He and Emily were

Shortest in class

It drew them together

And they had a blast!

He grew faster

And could ride that powder-blue bike

Though it collected rust

More than he liked

For his fourteenth birthday

He accidentally hit a ditch

Popped the bike's tire

And stayed up all night because

Emily loved

The feel of the wind

Sitting on the back of his bike

To feel free deep within

For his eighteenth

The bike broke down

The last of it's life

Lived on the edge of town

With Emily in tow

And her eyes aglow

He asked her on a date

And her answer was 'no'
