CHAPTER 2: A CHANCE MEETING

''You should really learn to keep your fangs inside your mouth, where they belong.''

My attacker tensed and slowly backed away from me, not even daring to look back.

I however looked up to see a guy I can only explain this way:

Tall, dark, handsome ( dark referring to his nature)

The guy smirked at me and I felt my legs go weak. HE. WAS. HOT!

''Hey you! Do me a favour and move out of the way, I wouldn't  want to hurt you would I now?''

That, I believe was  rhetorical  and didn't need an answer.

I decided to instead move out of sight and hide behind a tree; a safe vantage point from which I watched as a ray of blue light shot out of my savior's palm and engulfed my attacker, he screamed in pain and tried to fight off the blue flame but it hungrily devoured his body until there was nothing but a pile of black ash left behind as proof of his existence.

I sighed in relief as my body gave way, allowing me to slink down the trunk of the tree till I was seated cross-legged on the ground. Closing my eyes, I took a few deep breaths in an attempt to calm my nerves. When events such as the one that played out just a couple of minutes ago happened, I was extremely prone to panic attacks.

However, the sight that greeted me when I finally opened my eyes had me jumping back so fast that I banged my head hard against the tree. How ironic, until now it was had only been for my support.

The hot vampire that had rescued me was sitting on the ground in front of me with his gorgeous face only inches away from mine.

I was suddenly reminded of the throbbing pain at the back of my head and my hand flew up to feel a small but stinging bump.

''Ow, stupid tree,'' I muttered under my breath, rubbing my head.

I stole a few glances at him and a soft blush coated my cheeks as he tilted his head to the side, his inquisitive evergreen eyes studying me.

''Are you hurt?'' He asked, concern in his voice.

''N-no,'' I replied as my cheeks reddened and I silently cursed my lack of words.

He stood up and walked to my side and I gasped as I was suddenly plucked off the ground and into his gentle grasp.

''I can walk just fine,'' I said barely above a whisper as I clasped my hands together firmly in my lap, though they itched to wrap around his neck.

''That slight bump you got is threatening to give you a small concussion, any minute now you'll collapse and I can't have that. I can't have you vulnerable and there are other vampires in this place who are just dying to get a taste of your sweet blood. I need you to be safe and they won't attack you when you're with your own people,''

His kindness shocked me.

Weren't vampires supposed to be evil, heartless and cruel? The one that attacked me was my definition of a vampire but this one that saved me, he was different from the others.

I remembered how my mother described vampires with so much contempt:

''Vampires are soulless creatures who feed off the fear and blood of others. They are evil and enjoy watching the pain, suffering and confusion of others. They use their beauty to lure in their victims and they only realize the danger they are in when its too late. They are like sirens but more sick and twisted. Nothing good can ever come out of a vampire.''

I had met a lot of vampires that were exactly how my mother described but the one that was presently carrying me as far away from danger as possible only confused me, I'd never met a vampire as kind as him.

''What's your name?'' my savior asked.

''Arylla,'' I replied after much hesitation, contemplating whether it was a good idea to give my name to a vampire.

I also asked for his name because it would give me some kind of weird closure in case he decided to attack me after all.

''I'm Marlin,'' he replied as we reached the clearing where my camping ground was located.

Oddly, I dreaded to say goodbye to him.

We finally reached our destination and Marlin put me down, turning around to leave but I ran to him and wrapped my arms around his waist, he tensed up and stopped walking.

''Thank you for saving me Marlin, I owe you my life,'' I whispered.

I suddenly felt the impulse of his aura increase to the point that it was dense against my skin and I shuddered in fear, stepping back quickly.

''You should never owe your life to a vampire, they might just take advantage,'he said with his back still facing me then disappeared, leaving me puzzled and scared.
