Another [not-so-]little extras piece!
I wanted to tell you all about the world of The Charlatan, since I love talking about the products of my imagination. (I just like talking, period.) I've got some crude map drawings and am working on honing my artistic cartography skills to come up with something less... crappy-looking... but for now I can give you a general idea of the world and its nations, the nations' flags, as well as the nations' descriptions.
The story of The Charlatan takes place on a fictional continent of earth, which is comprised of six adjacent nations, two micronations, two island nations, and three mysterious coastal areas that no one even sets foot near.
The cast of The Charlatan only ever touches six of these places (although travelling six nations in the span of a few months is still quite the adventure, I would say).
VELT
The Veltie flag: rectangular two-colour gold and white flag, stripes longways, "gold over heaven"
Velt sits in the center of the continent and is by far the wealthiest country on it. Its people are called Velties and are often described as shrewd, practical, and highly financially literate (if not just "gold-obsessed"). Velt's official language is Velte, a tonal language that is often described as "singsong," slightly nasal, and relatively smooth.
Velt is an elective monarchy and a wealthy military power. It essentially owns the continent's trading system, due to its central location and its establishment of the courier network. Transportation technology, defense, and messaging systems are its prides and main commodities.
Velt has a lush prairie-type terrain, with a lot of arable farmland and a few woods scattered around the nation. It experiences seasonal climate changes. A large river flows through it, which drops into a waterfall ("The Falls") on its path through the Citadel.
The Citadel
The Citadel is the capital of Velt, located slightly north of the center of the nation. It began as a fortress and developed as a large self-sustaining city as more and more wealth flowed into the city's hands. It generates hydroelectric power via the power plant that sits on and around The Falls.
The Citadel is laid out in a circle, with the King's Dwellings sitting in the center. Much of the architecture is industrial - metals mixed with old masonry left over from its fortress days. The Citadel houses the largest courier dispatch on the continent, which can be seen from the Citadel's main gates.
The Citadel has an elaborate and extensive defensive system. Its walls and gates are made from nearly impenetrable metals and they can extend over the city to create a dark self-enclosed dome. It has never been breached.
