It's a good thing I didn't own a lot of stuff, otherwise packing would've been a lot more difficult. I managed to stuff my limited amount of clothes in both boxes and still have room for my shoes, toiletries, peanut butter jar, bread loaf, and ramen noodle packs.

The sheets and the mattress could stay.

Since Nan had officially kicked me out, there was no need to stay an extra night. I planned on catching a cab back to Macon to live with my aunt. True, my appearance would be unannounced but I doubted she'd turn me away. Plus, I had two thousand dollars to bargain with should she need to be persuaded.

I stacked one box on top of the other and carried them down three flights of stairs, ignoring the burn in my arms when I finally made it back to the lobby. But Luc wasn't here.

When my limbs couldn't take it anymore, I put the boxes on the floor and pushed them to the doubled doors at the entrance.

There was a sleek, black Lexus waiting in the front with heavy tinted windows. The trunk popped as I walked outside then Taron appeared from the driver's side. He noted my belongings, shoved in boxes instead of suitcases, and went to take them for me. "Get in."

"Where's Luc?"

"That's Lucian, to you. Only his close family and friends can call him Luc. He has better things to do than babysit you." Taron jeered agitatedly. It was little effort for him to pick up my boxes then place them in the trunk.

I climbed in the front seat the same time he did. "Don't be pissy because my right hook bent your nose."

He growled in response.

Triumph blossomed in my chest and I looked out the window to hide my smile. Two points for me. "Where are we going?"

"Luc wants you dressed properly for your job this evening so we're going to make a few stops." He reached into the pocket of his leather jacket to produce a black iPhone 4. "Here."

"A phone?" I don't remember the last time I had one or even needed one before. It would've come in handy plenty of times, but I couldn't faithfully pay a phone bill or buy minutes.

I pressed the home button and the screen lit up with a text message already waiting for me. The contact name was Lucian Kingsley and the text read:Call me at eight.

"Luc wants to be able to get in contact with you so he'll know when you have the document." Taron explained.

I clicked the button to close the phone and put it in my purse. "I don't even know what I'm looking for or what it even looks like."

"You'll be briefed before tonight."

"I'm sorry for punching you in the nose." I said, hoping to douse his sour mood. He seemed like a good person who was loyal to his boss or friend or whoever Luc was to him. I shouldn't have hit him for doing his job.

"No you're not."

He was spot on with that assumption, but at least I tried to make amends. "Well, you never should've touched me."

"I was escorting you out of the building."

I waved his explanation away before turning my gaze back to the activity outside of the window. "Semantics."

After visiting the clothing store, shoe store, then finally the salon, I was dolled up and standing outside one of the most prestigious night clubs in the whole city-Envy.
