✰ REAL LIFE ✰Wyatt didn't talk to Ronni for the rest of the day, trying to give her time to processes. He never stopped thinking about her though. He laid awake all night thinking about all of the possible outcomes and all of the reasons he didn't want to loose her.
He was so worried, worried almost to the point of tears, but he let the sky do his crying for him. The weather that night was a perfect reflection of how he felt. Thunder clapped loudly, lightning struck every few minutes, the wind blew violently, and the rain fell relentlessly. Wyatt felt as if the sky understood him in a way.
Ronni often told him that the sky always knew. Though not on the ground, the sky always heard your silent cries as well as your ear splitting ones. Wyatt, like he always did, would question her sobriety, not understanding her in the slightest. Now he understood. He understood what she meant, and he understood refreshing it felt to be understood and listened to.
As he laid down worrying and listening to his heart hit his rooftop, the first time Ronni told him about the sky played over and over in the back of his mind.
"You're awfully happy today, Stanny,"Veronica spoke through the phone one afternoon. Wyatt had been happy, he just got the news that he'd be working with Teen Cancer America again, and he was exultant.
"How'd you know?"he asked, a light chuckle following his question. Ronni sighed merrily, tugging his heart strings, and making him smile wider than he thought was possible.
"I just can tell,"she said, he could hear the smile in her voice. "Besides,"Ronni said in this almost sing song voice,"the sky told me."
Wyatt laughed as he frequently did while talking to Ronni. "The sky told you? Are high or something?"he asked taking a seat at the computer desk in his room.
"No, I'm not high, headass. The sky knows everything."
"Does it now?"Wyatt nodded, spinning in his chair.
Ronni scoffed, making Wyatt smile softly. He loved getting on her nerves, it was funny to him.
"Look outside, and tell me what you see,"she huffed. Wyatt shook his head, but rolled his chair over to his window. He examined the sky intently, trying to figure out what the redhead was talking about.
"Nothing. The sky is clear,"he shrugged, rolling back over to his desk.
"Exactly! It's a bright and sunny day with no clouds in the sky. I'm in a very good mood. Everyone at school was in a good mood. You are in a good mood. I've yet to see someone upset. Stanley, the sky knows,"she ranted, seeming to sincerely mean every word she spoke.
He furrowed his eyebrows. He understood what she was saying, but it didn't make any sense. "So on rainy days everyone's sad and on sunny days everyone's happy?"he asked her.
"No, bitchass. There's more to it than that. Rain doesn't always mean bad, personally I enjoy a little rain. Though, your fun rainy day may be someone else's sad rainy day. Just listen to me, broski. The. Sky. Knows,"Ronni explained once more, but with a laugh this time.
He smiled because he liked it when she got so enthused over something. Naturally she would. She's a fangirl after all.
"Where did you come up with this anyway?"he asked, sliding back over to his window just to watch the sky a little longer.
"My great grandma, Nanny Mae we called her,"he could hear the nostalgic smile she wore,"she sat me down one day when I was around 14 or so, and she says to me 'Veronica Jess Taylor, you're the only one in our family who's gonna believe me when I tell you this. I need you to hear it, though. The sky can hear your heart. Ronni, the sky knows everything. It knows your bad days, your good days, your hopes, and your dreams. When you feel stuck and lonely, just know that you aren't. The sky always understand you.' She then went on to say how you could talk to the sky. Nanny Mae had always been my best friend. She just understood me, you know. And then, just a year ago (a few weeks before Christmas) , time did as time does, it fucked everyone up. For days it rained-not rained, stormed. Our family, we were torn to shreds. Nanny Mae was the glue that held us together. She was the strongest person in our family. She raised three kids by herself, and never once complained. It rained until the day after her funeral. My mom, dad, and I were cleaning up her house. When we got there, hot and humid air hung over us, making us dreary, putting us in this kind of 'fuck, man. life really sucks' mood. We got in there and worked, barely speaking, for the fear of starting a conversation would lead to crying. But it just got too much for me. I was alone in her bedroom, clutching her necklace. I cried and cried until I pulled an Ari and had none left. My mom walked in to give me something, and she saw me. My dad came in soon after. They held me and we all cried for at least an hour before we decided to call it a day. On our way home, I was given the book that my mom was meant to give me an hour before. Nanny Mae had written me a book with at least half of the pages written in. It was supposed to be a Christmas gift, but you know. I flipped though the pages, but stopped on the last one she had written in. It said that she knew she was going to leave soon because the sky had told her so. It said that we shouldn't be sad because it was her time, she had lived the best life she could ask for, and because she'd always be watching over us. When we got home, I got out of the car, and the air just felt lighter. It wasn't so suffocating, the sun was out, and there was a rainbow in the sky. That's when it really-and I mean really- hit me that she was right. The sky understands,"she poured her heart out to Wyatt as he listened with both his ears and heart. He could tell she was crying, and so was he. And so they stayed up for the rest of the night telling stories that made them both laugh and cry until the sun rose the next day, them both thanking God that it was a weekend.
Neither of them knew it, but that night brought them closer than either of them thought was possible with someone they had never seen in person. They told stories that they had told no one before, and they needed that. That night was a key point in their friendship, if anything, that's the night that really showed how much they meant to one another.
This afternoon, however, the sky didn't seem as understanding as it did during his restless night. The sky, which was shining brightly, seemed to mock him. Wyatt really believed that the sky was taunting him.
With frustration, he got up and shut all of the windows in his room. Then he threw himself into his computer chair, and he thought. And he thought.
He thought until he literally was thinking at all. He subconsciously turned on his computer and FaceTimed Ronni. Wyatt had no clue was he was doing.
But the sky did. The sky wasn't mocking him or taunting him in the least. The sky just knew.
