"I fell in love with her courage, her sincerity and her flaming self respect. And it's these things I'd believe in, even if the whole world indulged in wild suspicions that she wasn't all she should be. I love her and that is the beginning of everything" - F Scott Fitzgerald
Charlie's POV
Dear Charlie,
Can you please come visit me this weekend? Or I can visit you? I just need to see you. Something important has come up. I know you're busy, but please.
Your Girlfriend,
Aris KrumI had to read the letter twice to make sure I was reading it correctly. This didn't sound like my girlfriend, yet it was definitely her handwriting. It was so formal and pleading, I was worried something was wrong.
A bit of guilt crept into my head as I realized I hadn't seen her in about two months, but it was all for good explanation.
(Author's Note: for timeline references: the first task happened on Nov 24 and the second task happened February 25, aka when Aris found out she was 1 month pregnant. Now it's March, and she's 2 months pregnant)
I had joined the Order, and they were having me go and recruit valuable individuals whenever I could. Unfortunately, this came at the expense of seeing my girlfriend, who at this point probably was going to dump me for not seeing her for so long. I knew Aris was out of my league, hell everyone knew she was out of my league. I didn't even get to see her get honored to be quidditch captain. I loved her, but I didn't know how she would feel about me being in the Order. I didn't straight up tell her because her family has many interesting friends. What if she didn't believe like my family and I did?
To be honest, I had known Aris long enough that I thought fairly positively that she would be understanding, but there was always the doubt in my mind. I was nervous when it came to her. I loved her so much, but the Order and fighting You-Know-Who was bigger than our love.
I had written her back that I would be there this morning for the whole weekend, so here I was, packing up a bag to go see her. Besides whatever Aris had to tell me, I knew I had to explain to her why I hadn't seen her in so long. I was nervous to say the least.
Aris' POV
Pacing the floor, I waited for him to finally get here. I was making tea, since supposedly coffee was bad for pregnancy or something like that. I had a stack of pregnancy books by my bedside now, so Charlie was going to find out this weekend whether I told him directly or not.
Before I told him though, I needed to know what he's been doing. One or two weekends, I understood that we couldn't see each other all the time. But eight weeks of unexplained "stuff" that he was busy with? What do I tell our kid in the future? "Sorry your dad's away. Don't really know why but that's ok?"
I wanted answers.
"Aris?" I heard, as I heard a knock on the front door. I smiled a bit. I had missed the sound of his voice.... stupid hormones.
"Charlie!" I said, as I opened up the door and gave him a hug.
"Hi love, how are you?" He asked, visibly nervous, which made me feel worse.
"I'm... I'm good. Would you like a cup of tea, or something to drink?" I asked, as I went into the kitchen. I was so nervous, I needed something to hold.
"Um tea? Are you okay?" Charlie asked concerned, seeing as I never drank tea, only coffee.
"Well... um. Charlie...I..." I said nervously. "Before I say anything, I need to know what you've been doing for the last month and a half"
"Oh... Well, I've been helping the Order with recruiting international help" He said simply, and I just stared at him.
"That's it?" I asked, confused. He looked at me confused, but nodded. "Charlie, why didn't you tell me?"
"Because I didn't know. I know you're an amazing person, but I didn't know how your family is" he said, and to be honest, I believed that. My family sometimes skated the fine line, but they always did the right thing. They just never stated anything outright. That's just how our family was.
"That's understandable. I think it's honorable what you're doing, and I'm sorry if I was mean in the letters. I just... I didn't know where you were and I didn't know if there was someone else, or what" I said, honestly. Charlie looked at me sadly, and went over to where I was standing and put my arms around my waist.
"I would never cheat on you. I love you so much. Besides my family, there is no one that I love more than you" He said, and I took a deep breath. This was it...
"I know someone you're going to hopefully love more" I said, and Charlie looked confused. I then went into the cabinet and got a mug that said "worlds best dad" and Charlie looked at me confused. I waved my wand over my belly, and undid the concealment charm that kept my abdomen looking normal. Now, Charlie could see the noticeable little bump.
