Chapter 1 - The Early Morning
There are only two types of people in school: Good and Bad. The second you step through those doors that separate you from the school and the world, you are assessed by those around you on whether you're the naughty type or not.
I hope to be the 'good girl' at school, like I have been at every other school I've been to. My parents have to travel a lot for work, so I have to constantly move schools. The longest I have ever been at one school is three terms and that was in Grade eight. I have made lots of friends (that I don't get to see any more) but I've never been the 'popular kid'. I don't plan on being the 'popular kid' any time soon either, I just plan on graduating and stop moving so much. It's not that I hate to travel, it's just not me...

I woke up to the sound of my alarm going off. The sun hadn't fully risen and I was still suffering from the effects of jet-lag. The plane was a full sixteen hour flight from Washington D.C, America to Perth Australia. We only arrived yesterday and already I was going to school. I groaned and rolled over, covering my ears with a pillow in hoping it would drown out the noise. With no such luck, I eventually turned it off and sat up in my bed. I looked around my room, taking in my new surroundings. Boxes, both full and empty, were piled on top of each other around the room. There was a small wardrobe located in the corner of my room, next to a window that gave me a view of the front yard and the rest of the street. It was partly blocked by a massive oak tree that was taller than the house. Clothes were strewn everywhere from when I tried to organize them before putting it away. A little, white, antique desk was located in another corner of the room, cleared of all papers and stationary. It was a plain room that had bare walls and a messy floor.
Sighing deeply, I threw the covers off of me and placed my feet on the cool ground. A sudden knock erupted from my door, followed by a sweet and gentle voice that could only be my mother's.
"Ariana, sweetie, are you awake?" she asked.
I'm still half-asleep so technically I'm awake.
I gave a slight smile at that thought and was just to say it out loud when I thought better of it.
"Yes, mum. Just about to get ready for school" I answered with instead.
"Okay, then. I'm gonna head off to work. Have a nice day"
"You to, mum"
I listened as her footsteps faded down the stairs and, eventually, heard her close the front door. I got up, picked out a few clothes to wear and headed straight for the bathroom to have a shower. I was an only child, so I was allowed to spend as much time in the shower as I wished. I turned on the taps and adjusted the water to my liking. Then, I quickly undressed and hopped in the shower. The water felt soothing and hot against my skin, washing away ant bit of coolness that would send me shivering in the cold. I washed my hair while softly singing the words to 'Forever Young'. I hummed the beginning and then let the words flow out of my mouth.
Let's dance in style, let's dance for a while
Heaven can wait, we're only watching the skies
Hoping for the best, but expecting the worst
Are you gonna drop the bomb or not?
Let us die young, or let us live forever
Don't have the power, but we never say never
Sitting in the sandpit, life is a short trip
Music's for the sad man
Can you imagine when this race in run
Turn our golden faces into the sun
Praising our leaders get in tune
The music's played by the mad man
Forever young, I wanna be forever young
Do you really wanna live forever?
Forever, forever
Forever young, I wanna be forever young
Do you really wanna live forever?
Forever, forever
Some are like water, some are like the heat
Some are the melodies, some are the beat
Sooner or later, they'll all be gone
Why don't they stay young?
It's hard to get old without a cause
I don't want to perish like a fading voice
Youth is like diamonds in the sun
And diamonds are forever
So many adventures couldn't happen today
So many songs that we forgot to play
So many dreams swinging out in the blue
We let them come true
Forever young, I wanna be forever young
Do you really wanna live forever?
Forever, forever
Forever young, I wanna be forever young
Do you really wanna live forever?
Forever, forever
Forever young, I wanna be forever young
Do you really wanna live forever?
Forever, forever
Forever young, I wanna be forever young
Do you really wanna live forever?
Forever, forever...
When I had finished, I got out and dried myself. I got dressed into denim jeans and a loose, white button-up shirt. I grasped two locks of hair on both sides of my head and split those into three smaller locks again, plaiting them and wrapping them around my head so that the two plaits would meet and join up at the back. I let the rest of my hair loose, letting it fall down to the bottom of my back. I applied some lip balm and walked out of the bathroom. Some people may think that I am better off with using makeup, but I don't see it that way at all. I think that putting makeup on is just like putting a mask on to hide what I truly look like.
I slipped on my white converse shoes and grabbed my backpack and keys before walking out of the house. I threw my backpack into the passenger seat of my blue Audi and hopped in the driver's seat. I plugged in my IPod and put my playlist on shuffle before starting up the car. I backed out of the driveway and drove down the streets, heading in the direction towards school.
I decided to take a few detours for three reasons. 1) I had heaps of time and I didn't want to be at school for longer than necessary. 2) I wanted to explore the neighbourhood. 3) I had put my favourite playlist on shuffle and I wanted to be able to listen to as much of it as possible. 'Radio' by Hot Chelle Rae was on and sang along with the lyrics as I looked around. While keeping my eye on the road and driving safely, of course.
