Why must we ruin everything that is so graciously gifted to us?

A green turtle looses its fight to the manmade material clogging up its throat. A tiered bird fails to rid itself of the slick oil coating its feathers and lies down in the soft sand. A seahorse desperately clings to a discarded Cotten bud, wishing it were a plant of seaweed that used to be so abundant in the majestic oceans.

We were given everything. Literally given the world. We were chosen by some higher power to take care of and treasure this planet so our descendants can use its resources for generations to come. We should have been the protectors. Instead, we took advantage of it. We drew oil from the precious oceans and covered the once blue waters with a silvery black glaze. We then used it to make plastic. The immortal substance. Never breaking down. That through our neglect and carelessness made its way back into the oceans. Only this time it did a lot more damage. We became so acquainted with the constant destruction and pain we were causing that we stopped caring. Reports of whales dying from the ingestion of plastic ceased. Articles outlining the dangers of plastic straws were printed no more. So caught up in the life of the Kardashians and other trivial things, we forgot the real world problems. Problems that would impact our lives. Problems that, if unsolved could end us. We never gave a second thought to the plastic flooding the oceans and strangling the sea life.

This needs to change. We need to restore the earth. We need to clean up our act and clean up our oceans. We need to remove the plastic bags from the ocean before they can suffocate a turtle. We need to remove the oil from the water before it costs another innocent bird. We need to help replenish our ocean flora before a seahorse has to seek refuge on another manmade item.

We were chosen to be the protectors. To protect this earth and everything in it, we must choose planet over plastic. We need to restore our earth.
