She lays in the darkness of her room, her face stained with tears as she holds her blankets close to her. She didn't want to feel this emptiness. All she wanted was for everything to be alright again.
Tonight would of been the night. The night her love would hold her until they fell asleep in each other's arms. The night that they got to spend together. But everything had to fall apart before it was possible.
All she wanted was for her dream to come true. Nothing more. But what hurts is that she's positive she'll never be able to achieve it. It was over.
But yet, she still dreams. She still dreams of what would of happened tonight.
Her eyes close as she sees nothing but her lover. She sees nothing but her head leaning against her lover's chest, in his arms. As they sway slowly, dancing slowly in the darkness of her mind.
Listening to all of the songs she couldn't listen to any longer because of the pain. Just swaying, feeling the warmth that she's missed for so long. Her heart finally feels that tiny hint of fullness again.
She slowly fades from the image, yet she refuses to open her eyes. She never wanted to let go of the fullness. She imagined his arms wrapped around her, encasing her in warmth and love as she slowly starts to fall asleep. His legs tangled with hers, nothing could separate them except for the light of morning.
Then she opens her eyes.
All of that fullness gets ripped out of her chest as fast as she could of regained it. Reality hits her with a punch in the face.
All of those things she dreamt of will never happen. They're nothing but DREAMS.
He wasn't her lover. Not anymore.
He is now her ex. And he has been for quite a long time.
She just can't ever let him go. No matter how much she needs to.
Her eyes start to water all over again as she holds the emptiness of the blanket close to her. Nothing could replace him. Nothing was as perfect as him.
She grasped onto the fullness in her heart as much as she could, but it slipped from her fingers as her sobs grew more painful. The cold, empty room surrounded her. Not the warmth that she wanted to dream of.
She cries herself to sleep, the only way she could lull herself to sleep was with those dreams. That feeling of fullness she was addicted to. She couldn't live without it, even though she practically had no other choice.
And even through all of this, until this day, she continues to dream about what could of happened tonight.
