Watership Down - Bigwig X Doe

Solo Patrol

It was finally peaceful in Watership Down, and everyone slowly started to realize this. They stared to relax and enjoy their time with their live ones, it was a beautiful live for all of them and Frith was to thank for that. But this peace wasn't for all of them, one was restless and wasn't sure what to do with himself. Since the War ended Bigwig was on edge and grumpy, even more then before.

„You call that sitting straight? That's hilarious, Position again! And now, Run!“

„Don't you think your being a bit over the least few days? Everyone is exhausted and tries to relax Bigwig, why don't you try it too?“

„Even through the War is over, we can't let our guard down Hazel. We still have Elil to worry about and who knows when the next Woundwort is coming, we can't slack of“

„The War is over Bigwig, please try to relax,for the sake of everyone.“

„I'm still the Captain of your Owsla, aren't I  Hazel?“

„Of course you are“

„Then let me do my job or release me of my duty, I'm going to patrol the area“

Bigwig left Hazel and hopped of down the hill, by Hazel's side arrived Primrose placing a Hand on his shoulder

„Oh what should I do with him?“

„He needs time to process everything that happened, give him some time Hazel“

As everyone enjoyed the peace on the Hill, Bigwig was hopping through the fields below as he stopped and started to sniff

„smells like. . . Blood . . . And a Rabbit“

He started to run in the direction of the smell and soon found where it came from, a black Rabbit was laying in a treehole. As he slowly approached this Rabbit he saw that it was covered in wounds and it was breathing Heavily, he sniffed to figure out what coursed this wounds.

„Smells like a Fox, Owl, Wiesel and Human. What happened to it?“

As he came near it he realized that this Rabbit was a Doe, he couldn't believe that a Doe with this wounds would be still alive. He grabbed her and placed her on his shoulders and started to run back to the Warren, carefully not to hurt her anymore. As he came back the first one to notice was Campion, He run down to him and helped him carry her up.

„Hazel! Come quick!“

As Campion yelled short after everyone was outside the Warren and standing by around the Two Bucks and the Doe

„Bigwig what Happened?“

„I can't say for sure, I was on patrol as I smelled blood and as I looked where it came from I found this Doe in a hole under a Tree. I also could smell many different attackers like Fox, Owls, Wiesel and Human.“

„We need to bring her Inside, she needs rest and treatment“

Blackberry said and with that Bigwig and Campion carried her into the Warren, They brought her into the very end of the Burrow where only a few holes were. They laid her down got out of the tight hole, Blackberry and Primrose got inside with a wooden bowl of water and some weeds. They started to clean the wounds as Primrose noticed something, she sniffed on a wound and got back a little

„This wound smells strange like, poison “

„Does she have chance to survive?“

„I don't now but she seems strong, we did everything we could. If she survives this night I think she will be okay, but we need someone to watch her if something happens.“

„I found her so I'm responsible, I will watch her“

„Bigwig are you sure?“

„I said I do it so I will do it“

The others left and left Bigwig with the strange Doe behind, he set down at the entrance of the hole but he couldn't help but to starr at her. She had so many wounds and some of them looked really bad, but she was still fighting against the Black Rabbit of Inlé. The night was long and the Doe seemed to be in real pain, her temperature sunk quickly and she started to shiver. Bigwig lay down next to her to warm her up, she moaned in pain flinched.

„Come on, I don't know what happened to you but you can escape the Back Rabbit“

He didn't really know why but he wanted her to survive. As the sun rise everyone gathered at the hole of the Doe and waited for Primrose to tell them of she would make it or not, after a while she looked at everyone and nod with a smile.

„i think she is fine now, her breathing is stable and her heartbeat is normal. She needs more rest but I'm certain that she will wake up soon“

„Im curious what Happened to her“

„We all are Hawkbit, but we need to wait till she wakes up“

„lets leave her and let her rest, we have to find more Flayra and the Children's are waiting to train outside and play“

Everyone made their way outside but Hazel and Bigwig stayed behind

„Your not coming Bigwig?“

„I . . . I think that I will stay here on Watch“

„Are you sure? But what is about Patrol and the training of the junior Owsla?“

„Campion can go on Patrol with Dandelion and Hawkbit, and Pipkin is training the Kids everyday.“

„if you say so“

„Dont give me that grin of yours, I found her and so I'm responsible for her that's all“

„i know, i know. Then take good care of her, and let me know if she wakes up“

And with that even Hazel left and Bigwig was alone again, Bigwig looked down on the Doe and lay down a little away from her but still not taking his eyes of off her. ,
