chapter two; everlasting pain

i woke up. Unable to move my left arm i looked over as i saw my best friend and my brother looking at my arm. “Aannnndd done!” she threw her arms in the air in excitement “ and it looks like sleeping beauty is awake just in time” she gave me a big toothy smile. See this is my best friend paige. She's a dwarf and she works with mechanics . fixing anything dhr can find it broken. Even weapons. She has her hair all tied up into a messy bun and her apron and clothing is covered in muck.”here try out your new arm!” my stomach drop when i heard that “ wait WHAT” i shot right up and looked down at my arm. It was all metal and copper . i jump backwards in fear. I gasped for air in a panic “ WHAT DID YOU DO!”

“Well your arm was broken and well we can't go to the doctor because….well he's dead aaaannnndd weeeellll.. Lets just say that you would have died too if i didn't do that…’

I just looked at her in shock. “The doctor….dead…?” i muttered looking up at her. “Yep… dead”. Paige looked down at her feet, me,her, and my brother were close to the doctor. Yes, he might have been mad, but, he was a good man. “Im..im sorry paige..” i tried to get up and hug her but she stopped me “its fine.. Anyway we should be more worried about your arm then doc” i lifted my head to find my brother rummaging thru paige's fridge. I think he sensed that i was looking at him because he turned his head to show his chocolate covered face. He smiled at me like he just noticed i woke up. “ hey sis” he said with a mouth full of chocolate cake. “I'm glad you're awake!” his ear twitched as he put down the cake and went to go wash his face of. I was trying to remember how i broke my arm. Yesterday was all too fussy for me to remember. I looked at paige. She went back to work on my new arm. “You should have asked me before you removed my arm” i muttered under my breath. Paige said nothing. She just kept working. I sighed and looked outside of the little tent shack i was laying in. i noticed that kids were roaming around all on their lonesome. There seemed to be no adults in sight. I looked up at the top of the tent. “ hey paige?” i say still looking up at the stitched up tent top. She looked at me for a sec and went back to work “ yes?” she said sounding emotionless. “Where are my parents?” she froze at my question. “ do...do you not remember?” she asked looking at me with concern. I shake my head. “No..” i said confused.she added the last detail to my arm to make it pleasing to the eyes. “Every adult has disappeared… taken away by the army” i looked at her in shock.”oh..” everything started to pop back into place in my mind when she said army. I sat up, feeling like barfing, for some reason this hurt me more then it should. I didn't know why the army needed people so bad. “What does the army need so many people” i asked and looked at her with a stone face. Paige open her mouth but immediately closed it. “Why??” i asked again in a louder tone. Paige looked down at her feet.” i...i honestly have no idea why…” she muttered. I tried to understand why this was going on. I jumped off the little bed i was on and walked off. I could feel as Paige's eyes stared threw me. I kept walking. Never looking back. Looking off into the distance. I headed to the docks and sat down on the edge. Letting the tears fall. “ steam...what are you doing here??” I recognized the voice. But before I could turn my head. I felt a gun held ages the back of my head.
