The Abyss

Defining The Society and Its Fears

    In this society I have created the citizens of the kingdom live underwater. To give a bit of background to this world, above the surface humans are flourishing and dealing with issues we currently have to deal with as a society. One main distinction from our world to this is that Atlantis exists and has been discovered by humans for years now. What the humans of the world do not know is that Atlantis is just the surface of the sea world. Down below Atlantis lies the deep sea also known as the Abyss. The Abyss has been undisturbed by the human world for centuries, due to this the citizens of the Abyss have thrived and the sea creatures have been able to develop sapience, gaining the ability to create a religion, a government, and weaponry. It is hard to say how the creatures of the deep sea transformed into such humanoid-like creatures with the power to speak and walk but many citizens of the Abyss worship and believe it was due to the god of Marina Hado. Some people believe that Marina was magically and fought monsters with her magic, some believe she made the Abyss a liveable place. Marina has many stories and legends created about her so it's very much a mystery on who she was and where she is or even if she ever existed in the first place. There are many types of races and humanoid sea creatures that have found a home in the Abyss, such as: angular fish, vampire squids, viperfish, pacific viperfish, sperm whale, frilled shark, fangtooth fish, rockfish, six gilled shark, giant spider crab, wolffish, atlantic wolffish pair, giant tube worms, oarfish, and the firefly squid.
    These creatures having been undisturbed for so long and with the gift they have been given since the beginning the citizens have developed social classes and even a form of government based on the renaissance ages of our current human world. There are four classes of society; the upper class has wealth, power, they live in grand temples. The second class are similar they have above average wealth and live in houses made with expensive materials and have guards and servants. The third class live in houses, the houses are made with less expensive materials and the foundations aren't as steady as first and second classes houses, this lower class also have no servants. In the fourth class it's different, these people don't value money, they are the more outlandish people, they also live on the outskirts of the deep sea. They don't have homes and if they do it's not their home, it's usually a place they took over. The fourth class is in poverty and more violent but due to guards and royalty, the fourth class is more of your slummy/very lower class type people.
    In the Abyss there are goverment; that government is dictatorship and based on medieval times just like in our current world in the past. On the highest point of power stands the Abyss king, Bierstadt who is a vampire squid humanoid. The queen is Anselm who is a female vampire squid. In the royal line after the king and queen there is the prince and the dutchess. There is a group of five people who council the king and they consists of many sea species. In the Abyss they also have an army, the soldiers are of the species of giant spider crab, the generals are of the species of fangtooth fish and the specialist are usually frilled shark species. Even though they don't have any contact with anyone else besides sea creatures there have been rebellions and there is one thing they fear; humans and outsiders.
    Outsiders are a huge threat to the Abyss. Outsiders in this case are humans. There is definite racism in their fear as looks can be very jarring and influence people's options. The Abyss had heard stories of humans, all of them have mostly been bad. Outsiders aka humans can do many things. The humans could take all of the Abyss resources and leave them strippeed of all value.The outsiders could destroy the armies and kill everyone causing mass extinction. This is the fear of the Abyss. Outsiders could easily mean the end of the Abyss if they performed a hostile takeover like the Abyss had heard stories about from the council of the king.
