Owen Grady was a said Raptor trainer. In other words, crazy as it might sound, he was able to successfully train Raptors which due to their extreme cleverness and photographic memories, is more than what indeed most men can say. His secret is that he imprinted on those dinosaurs; when they were born. He was the first to make contact with them. Blue held a particularly special place in his heart, more so than any of the others. Nethertheless, he knew that one day soon, man would have to destroy them all, or rather he would have to destroy them all. Not maliciously, by any means, but man and dinosaur were not meant to co-exist harmoniously alongside each other under the law of nature. Hence why they became extinct before humans ever existed as far as we know. He knew that soon enough, he would most likely be the one to set right what Dr John Hammond had done wrong.
Fiddling about with the tyres on the front wheels of his car, Owen sighed dolefully, for he knew that there would be no exceptions. Blue would also have to die as well.
Forcing himself to push away the thought, he fixed the wheels of his car and stood up, proudly observing the effect of his handiwork. That was, until he heard a twig snap behind him. Before turning around, he saw two feminine shadows looming down upon the bonnet of his now gleaming car. One that he would know anywhere, almost like the real-life Mary Poppins, and a smaller, more teenage-looking silhouette.
"Claire?" Owen exclaimed in an almost flat, dismissive tone that sounded more like a statement than a question.
"Owen," she nodded back, sharply exhaling, arm around the girl beside her who was like a clone of her.
The deep-ginger-haired, green-eyed girl, looked up at Claire, then back at Owen with confusion written across her face, her eyebrows clearly expressing it.
"What is it?" she enquired curiously.
"Nothing darling. Nothing," Claire forced a plastic smile on her face as she tried to convince the girl that everything was calm.
As soon as the girl went off for a walk round the back of Owen's house, Claire immediately got right to it.
"I take it you got my message then?"
"Yeah i did," Owen replied stiffly. "She's coming to stay isn't she? She's your neice?"
"Yes. Her name is Gabrielle. Gabby for short. And yes, for the time being."
Owen nodded but stayed silent. Claire caught onto this and rolled up her sleeves,, a habit that Owen knew only far too well; she would do this whenever she was about to give a lecture.
"Owen, people have being trying to contact us!" she hissed angrily. "Why haven't you answered?!"
"I know that we'll have to eventually..." Owen mumbled, "but Blue...i can't just..."
Claire sighed with impatience.
"Listen, i know Blue is made of something more than the others. But think of how many Blue's there are and then think about how many dinosaurs there are on this planet. They can cross onto mainland now and they could attack any day."Owen stayed silent again, so Claire used that to her advantage and continued.
"These creatures aren't fluffy little bunny rabbits Owen. They're monsters who were not naturally selected to continue breeding on. They were selected for extinction millions of years ago and we should let nature run it's course. The future of this planet, the danger of the human race, the turmoil, the protests, the jeopardy....the chaos!"
"You'd really get along with Dr Malcolm you know that?" Owen growled as he walked right past her. "Bloody extinction and chaos theory!"
He gave a derisive snort and carried on mooching about."Well I'm sorry if you don't want to help protect the future of this Earth but i do. And while i agree very much with what Ian Malcolm said in his book and in that jury speech three years ago, you are starting to sound exactly like John Hammond."
Owen's mouth hung open like a codfish as he had no better reply to spout out of his mouth he just said solemly;
"Look, can we please leave this conversation. What's the point in continuing this arguement that we-?""-Because it's serious Owen. People are in danger," Claire lectured dismissively, cutting him off. "At some point, the human race will pay for their own error. We need to amend what Hammond did wrong. Ian agrees with me....and we need - I need you."
Owen paused momentarily and continued with what he was doing beforehand.
"So did Alan!" Claire pressed on desperately, hoping that those words might grab his full attention, and she was right in assuming so, because Owen just stopped at an abrupt halt, pivoted around on his heel and stared.
"Alan? As in Alan Grant?"
"Dr Alan Grant," Claire corrected him. "Yes."
"You talked to him?"
"Yeah and he agrees with us. Now we need you. You are the only person fit enough, strong enough and brave enough to lead us. Grant and Malcolm, whilst strong in their heyday, are too old now. You must help us. Join us!"
Owen gave an involuntary, moody sigh of defeat and as he got up to his feet, he gave a brisk nod and hugged Claire, his partner in crime. She took advantage of this glorious moment and buried her face into his broad shoulder. He rarely did anything like this so it made a change besides taking her hand or lifting her up ungracefully.
"You know, you won't regret it," she whispered in Owen's ear as they clung to each other like two turtledoves.
"I am so gonna regret this," Owen said as they both shared a private chuckle.
