Chapter one: New friendship

i sat there under the shade of the willow trees by the pond watching the turtleducks being fed by Zuko and his mother, he seems very happy i thought to myself with a smile. And thats all i want is him to be happy.

"Kasumi, aren't you meant to be cleaning the kitchen" a voice said behind me as i turned i saw Azula, Mai and Ty Lee.

"Um yes but i got sent outside for a quick break from the chef" i replied, Azula didn't look pleased with my response, "im sorry your highness, i will return" i added and then she seemed happier and i scurried back to the kitchen.

i returned to my post and started to boil the water for the palace. See i am a firebender like many but because i am a slave i had to serve the royal family, it all happened when my mother was imprisoned. She came from the Northern Water tribe and was taken for her healing abilities. She was forced to become the nurse for the army and heal their injurded. But while she was there she met a fine general and soon they fell in love but their love was forbidden. They tried to kept it a secret, but that ended when the fire lord found out he punished the general so bad that no one speaks of it anymore, as for my mother when he found out she was with child he spared her life for that time being, but he made a deal that the child shall always be a servant of the royal family and as for her well i dont know. As i haven't seen her since i was 7.

I was deep in thought i did not notice the boiler was expanding due to too much heat.

"Kasumi, look out" a kitchen hand yelled that snapped me out of my trance, just in time for me to stop heating it and take cover. BOOM!!! the boiler exploded and steaming hot water went everywhere. Many people screamed in pain as the boiling water hit their skin, the explosion caused one of the fire lord's assistants to come down and order people to clean it up while those with burns had gone to the castle's hospital, he then grabed me by my shirts collar and dragged me to the throne room.

"Stay and DON'T touch anything" he scolded me and walked away. Great i've gotton myself banished, imprisoned or worse death. I didnt want to think of the last idea and just kneeled waiting for my orders.

"Kasumi isnt it?" asked a gently voice, i looked up and saw Zuko's Mother. I nodded and she gigled.

"I hear your having trouble focusing in the kitchen please follow me" she gestured and i followed her. I soon found myself in the courtyard and saw Zuko by himself as Azula was with Mai and Ty Lee practicing fire balls.

"Now Kasumi, can i ask of you to do a massive job for me?" she asked.

"I suppose so, but if it involved gardening im not your girl i tend to burn stuff" i joked and she chuckled, "No, i want you to be friends with Zuko. You know he has tough time making friends and i know your a sweet girl and will become good friends".

Oh my, me as his friend. I didn't noticed that I nodded, Kasumi what have you got yourself into i thought.

"thanks" she smiled and nudged me in the direction of him. I slowly walked and wondered how i should act because he is a prince afterall, i was a few feet away and sighed.

"hi, you know your not gonna have fun all alone" i said and he turned around. He stared right at me, i wasnt sure what i said was a good thing then he smiled.

"yeah your right, you wanna play with me?" he asked i smiled back nodding. Knowing we may just have started a great friendship.
