Loneliness

Loneliness is a killer, skilled in what she does
But tonight, she prowls the streets, looking for love

In a window, a boy sits, staring across the street
At a girl in her window, looking down at her screen

He smiles to himself as he hears a beep
His phone lights up, and his heart skips a beat

They speak all night, as the moon falls away
Willing the Sun to bring forth a new day

Loneliness waits there the very next night
She fell for his smile, but the time isn't right

For him to love her, she must be the only one
She knows what she must do, it's what for centuries she's done

Slowly, she creeps, ready to attack
A hand on the girl's temporal lobe, and a knife in her back

Overwhelmed by the sadness Loneliness has collected
From every heartbreak as she was rejected

She whispered to the girl as she slithered into her head
Willing her to just jump off the ledge

The job was done and she slipped back into his house
Ready for him to love her and no one else

But she found him lying there, face to the wall
And as she sat beside him, he didn't stir at all

She spoke softly to him, sang him haunting melodies
But he seemed to be alone, stuck in his dreams

She longed to know what she could do to make him fall in love
So she reaches into his hippocampus to see why she's not enough

There he is, in a dashing black suit
Dancing with a girl she remembered, that she knew

As they twirl around the dance floor, she turns, her face visible
Her blood ran cold as she remembered how easily she bent the girl's will

How can he still love her if she is gone?
Loneliness is right here, for him to lean on

As her vision is blurred, everything red with rage
She grabs his throat and looks at him straight

"Why don't you love me! Look, I'm right here!"
"I killed her for you! We can be together my dear!"

It was then that he saw her, he saw what was true
He looked into her emerald eyes and whispered "I'll never love a monster like you"

As her heart was shattered, she couldn't control
The pain rising inside her, she had to let go

With a hysterical scream, she tightened her grip
Willing all her pain to punish him

When all the darkness inside her was gone
Tears rolled down her shadow like cheeks as she looked on

He'd choked on her darkness and limp on the floor he'd lie
If he didn't love her, he deserved to die
