Jake walks out the door, and you follow after him.
"Jake, wait!" you call after him. You're both already several feet out the door. He turns around, tears in his eyes.
"I'm so sorry, Jake..." You continue in a sad whisper as you step closer.
"I really wish I could've saved him, Marie." he replies in tears. You hesitate for a minute because you're not sure how he'll react. Then, you proceed: "Jake, there's one more thing you should know..."
"What is it, Marie?" Jake replies in a curious but still somber tone. You hesitate again.
"Mike is alive," you reply.
"What?!" Jake replies. Excited, confused, in shock, unable to contain his emotions. Unable to form a sentence. "What...? How do you--? I ca-- I can't believe this. Marie, I--" he continues before you cut him off.
"No, Jake..." You reply abruptly, trying to make sure he doesn't get too excited. Jake sees in your eyes, you're less then happy.
"What is it, Princess?" he replies in a somber tone.
"Mike is alive but he's working for Lundgren," you reply, hesitantly.
"What? No..." Jake replies in disappointment. His excitement turns from sadness to anger. "I can't believe this!" he continues angrily, "all this time..."
"Jake, you cannot blame Mike" you reply.
"The hell I can't," he replies. "I thought--" you cut him off again.
"He's brainwashed, Jake" you reply, abruptly. "Lundgren found him and brainwashed him, he hardly knows who he is." Jake stands there, trying to process what he's heard.
"So... It's hopeless?" he replies, "I might see him again but he's gonna think I'm the enemy?"
"That's not at all what I'm saying," you reply. "All we have to do is make him remember, if we find him. It'll take a while but it won't be hard. We've done it before."
"But what about Lundgren? He'll--" Jake replies, slightly in fear. You cut him off.
"I won't let him hurt you," you reply. "I promise." You kiss Jake softly. He kisses back. You wrap each other in a tight embrace.
"I love you, Marie." Jake adds. Surprised at what you hear, you pull back, abruptly but slightly. You look at Jake, getting lost in his deep, blue eyes. You could stare for hours.
Suddenly you reply, "I love you more than words can describe." You kiss again, melting into each other's touch.A week passes and it's time for you to go home... Or is it? You and your friends are in the lobby of Hotel Barceló San José in Costa Rica, chatting while waiting for your bus to pick you up and take you to the airport. You're looking at your phone when suddenly, you hear a familiar voice.
"Attention, students of Hartfeld: I know you're all ready to go home and it is with great displeasure that I announce, you're not going anywhere." Your friends murmur in disbelief. You look up and see exactly where the voice came from. You can hear your friends whispering to themselves. You hear Diego quietly ask "what's going on?" Michelle quietly asks, "what's he talking about?" "I don't know," You hear Quinn ask from a distance. You stand up from the chair you're sitting in and direct your attention to Rourke.
"What the hell are you talking about, Rourke? Our parents are gonna be worried, you can't keep us here." you reply with a nervous chuckle.
"Oh, but I can," Rourke replies with an evil smirk. "In case you've forgotten, Marie, your parents work for me."
"Can someone just please tell us what the hell is going on?" Zahra replies.
"This was all part of the plan," Rourke adds.
"W-what plan?" Grace asks, slightly panicking.
"To have you all together for one last battle, of course." Rourke replies.
"Battle?!" Quinn replies, in shock.
"Or you can join my alliance and fight against the rest," Rourke adds. "The choice is yours."
"We're not joining you, Rourke." you reply.
"Suit yourself," Rourke replies as his attention goes to Aleister. "Aleister, my son."
"No, father." Aleister replies, "I will not let you turn me evil like you."
"If you can't beat em', join em'" Rourke replies, "you'll all be on my side in no time."
"We've beat you once Rourke, we'll do it again." you reply.
"With what army?" Rourke replies.
"Same as last time, Rourke, just you watch." you reply.
"And what makes you think they'll remember?" Rourke adds.
"You may have erased the island, Rourke, but there's one part of the island that's still here. That will always be here." You reply.
"And what's that?" Rourke replies.
"Me," you reply. "You're forgetting, I am the island. I still posses all the gifts La Huerta has given me."
"That won't be enough," Rourke replies.
"Yeah?" You reply, "we'll just have to see about that." Rourke chuckles and exits the hotel.
"Wow Marie," Quinn adds.
"You really showed him who's boss," Grace replies.
"...We have to find that detention facility," you add.
"Wait... Why?" Sean replies.
"Because the Vaanti can help us," you reply as you take out your phone to call Jake.
"Hey Princess, I thought you were going home." Jake says over the phone.
"Yeah, that's not happening" you reply, "meet me at the hotel."
"Okay," Jake replies. Moments later, you're all sitting in stools at the hotel bar, talking about your plan to find the Vaanti in order to take down Rourke, once and for all.
"...The Vaanti already remember us, we just have to find them." you add.
"How do we know this detention facility is even in Costa Rica?" Grace asks.
"My father brought us here for a reason," Estela replies.
"Wait... He's your dad, too?" Jake replies with a confused look. Estela looks at him and nods.
"He wants us all together for 'one last battle', he said and I assume that means every last one of us," you reply. "Including the Vaanti."
"What happens if we win this 'battle'?" Zahra asks.
"Rourke dies, Jake re-unites with Mike, they both report Commander Lundgren, the world goes back to the way it was, once upon a time." You reply. Jake smiles. You see him and smile back.
"So, how are we gonna find this place?" Michelle asks.
"If he wants us to find them, he's gotta give us clues," Grace replies.
"Let's just hope and pray that you're right, Brainthrust" Jake replies. Grace awkwardly pushes her glasses up with one finger.
"What if...?" you add quietly, still thinking but loud enough for everyone to hear.
"What Marie, what is it?" Diego replies.
"...What if the detention facility is actually that observatory we went to," you add.
"I don't get it," Raj replies in confusion.
"Yeah, me neither" Craig replies.
"No, I think I get what you're saying." Aleister adds, "What if the detention facility is disguised as an observatory?"
"Exactly," you reply. Craig stares with a confused look for a few seconds.
"...I still don't get it." Craig replies.
"That's because you're an idiot," Zahra replies.
"That room Rourke was in... At the observatory," you reply. Everyone stares at you in confusion.
"What room," Quinn replies.
"It looked like a lab of some sort," Jake replies.
"Exactly," you reply. "Which cou--" you're cut off by an unsettling, sickening thought. You stare into space, mumbling to yourself, "could be used for anything,"
"What?" Sean asks. No one understands what you're mumbling.
"What if... Oh, god..." you whisper, still lost in thought.
"What, Marie?" Raj replies.
"I think..." You then snap out of it and collect yourself before continuing, "we have to go... Now." You finish the last corner of your drink and run out of the bar. Your friends sit there, trying to process what happened. You stop and turn around to see them, slowly getting out of their seats. "Hurry," you add.
To be continued...
