“Miss. Uh. Scarlett” My bodyguard interrupted. I was singing cheerfully in my room to a new song playing on the radio.

“Your parents, they need to talk to you”

“Their back? I thought they return next Tuesday” I exclaimed grabbing my water bottle off of him.

He shrugged, obviously wanting to avoid the conversation.

“Well I guess I’ll find out”

Walking down the spiraling stairs, I contemplated asking my parents if I could go to a party tonight. I had recently made a new friend who moved in down the street. She was royalty and her parents were throwing her an 18th birthday.

“Hey Mum, Dad” I smiled greeting them with tight hugs. I was used to them leaving for long periods of time, so our greetings were never really that special.

“How’s School?” Dad asked motioning me to sit on the expensive bought lounge.

“If you mean homeschooled education, then all is the same, nothing out of the ordinary” I described, my finger pointing to the stack of books that were scattered on the fur carpet in my study.

“Scarlett, we have some news for you” My mother spoke. Suddenly a silence descended in the living room.

“Have I done something?” I squinted my eyes in curiosity.

“Have you?” My dad’s eyes widened.

“No, it’s just, according to Teen Fiction books, that line usually leads to ‘your going away for a little while, away from us etc., etc,”

“Funny that” Dad laughed awkwardly, grabbing my mums hand.

“No” I gasped.

“Honey, you have too” Mum cried.

“I’m not ready to go, I don’t want to” I exclaimed “I’m fine here, I…I’ve made a friend, she invited me to her party”

“I know” Dad sighed

“How do you know that? I never told you” I yelled “HAVE YOU BEEN SPYING ON ME?”

“It’s our job to protect you, since YOU never do” Mum yelled back forcefully.

“THAT WAS ONE TIME” I glared at her.

“QUIET EVERYONE, PLEASE!” Dad yelled, silencing us all.

“Sweetie” Mum spoke softly,

“Scarlett” I corrected.

“Scarlett dear” My dad sighed, “We can’t have you staying here, you need to be living a normal teenage girl life”

“Don’t I?” I threw my arms up in frustration.

“You need to go to a real school, with real people who live lives not quite like yours” Dad exclaimed taking my hands in his, he squeezed them tight. “We love you Scarlett and I know it is an uncomfortable situation for you but you can’t be locked inside here forever. You need to learn what its like for a real teenager.”

“Where is it?” I asked, pulling myself away from them. “The school? Will I be living there?”

“You’ll be going to college. It’s across the country”

“I can’t believe this. I thought you wanted to protect me? What good will it do if you take me to a college far away from where we live?”

“It will teach you a lesson of caring for yourself” Dad explained.

“Whatever, you could have just told me you didn’t want to care for me anymore, you didn’t have to throw me away to a stupid college.” I stormed off pushing past my bodyguards and slamming my bedroom door to show them that I was really that angry.
